About the Position:
We are seeking a highly motivated professional to join our team leading and implementing our dynamic and growing portfolio related to peacekeeping training and the Global Peace Operations Initiative (GPOI). The primary focus of this position is an anticipated State Department-funded GPOI program to train UN and African Union (AU) peacekeeping forces in Togo, West Africa. This is a key personnel leadership position for this program, with excellent opportunities for career advancement in Motive beyond the Togo-based program.
Key Tasks & Responsibilities:
- Serve as in-country TL coordinating the people, schedules, and equipment for a peacekeeping training program taking place in Togo, West Africa. This role is expected to primarily be based in Lome, Togo (up to 70% time).
- Oversee the successful coordination and execution of peacekeeping training program in Togo, Africa to host nation partner forces. This includes serving as the lead member of a team of instructors delivering courses on PKO, CIMIC, MDMP, UN ops, IHL, and related subject matter.
- Deliver, and provide ongoing improvements to, peacekeeping training course programs of instruction (POI) and courseware based on available UN, African Union (AU), NATO, U.S., and other doctrine, training material, and consultations with training audience. (Note: In some cases, training materials may already exist/be provided, though the TL must be prepared to develop or adapt original content and locally tailored practical exercises for some modules.)
- Ensure excellent communications with the U.S. Embassy, host nation military leadership, U.S. military and other trainers, and in-country stakeholders associated with the program.
- Monitor and support arrivals/departures into country of intermittent instructors or program staff.
- Help coordinate/receive and manage inventory of equipment shipments needed to support training in Togo.
Required Qualifications & Skills:
- U.S. citizen
- Must be fluent in English and French languages
- Minimum of fifteen (15) years of military experience, which includes service after September 11, 2001.
- Attainment of military grade of CW-3, E9, or O4 and higher.
- Demonstrated experience as a senior mentor/advisor, military or civilian, to a senior foreign security partner with directly related experience in capacity building and unit-level assessments.
- Relevant military operations or foreign security force (police or military) capacity building experience in the last 5 years.
- Previous professional experience (in a military or civilian capacity) in Sub-Saharan Africa.
- Examples of previous experience working with training and military resource management issues at the operational level
- (Preferred) Experience in organizational development, conducting activities intended to drive institutional improvement and self-sufficient organizational change.
- (Preferred) Experience as trained and certified Foreign Area Officer (FAO) with regionally focused expertise, including in an Office of Security Cooperation or Defense Attaché Office.
- (Preferred) Experience in a U.S. or NATO military training and doctrine development organization, or permanent assignment to a U.S. or foreign military training school or combat training center.
