Zupt, LLC develops autonomous technologies for harsh outdoor and subsea commercial applications. Our project timescales are months, not years and you will have visibility to the complete project and design process, not one very small component. We have world class people and we want to add to them. We need help developing and delivering these complex, but practical solutions.
We are accepting F1 OPT candidates for this role. We will sponsor the right candidates for their H1-B.
Primary duties:
You will be working with a small team in a fast-paced environment developing and implementing navigation, control, and perception algorithms for autonomous land and underwater vehicles. The role is very hands on and involves interfacing with various sensors, such as LiDAR, stereo cameras, inertial measurement units, encoders and GNSS. You will be required to develop algorithms for simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) for a seamless transition through GNSS denied environments, as well as design and test algorithms for autonomous control, object detection and obstacle avoidance.
Education & Experience Required:
Position requires a graduate degree in one of the following areas: Aerospace, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering. The academic path taken to have these skills is varied and can include Robotics, Mechatronics, GNC, Geomatics, Physics, Math’s, Computer Science or Electronics including Perception, Localization, Navigation and Control.
Within your studies you will have had extensive practical (built it - it did not work - you fixed it) and theoretical (simulated it and it worked every time) exposure with probability and statistics, control systems, nonlinear filtering (Extended Kalman Filter, UKF), nonlinear optimization, sensor integration and computer vision as they apply to robotics/control. You will have strong software skills (C, C++, Python, Matlab) with Linux and ROS/ROS2, OpenCV familiarity.
More specifically you will have a strong understanding of state-of-the-art point cloud based (Lidar) and keypoint based (stereo imagery) SLAM algorithms. You will be familiar with computer vision/deep learning/machine learning and corresponding frameworks such as Pytorch, Tensorflow. You will be required to train various objects for detection and relative pose estimation. Knowledge of inertial navigation sensors and integration will be a benefit.
The ability to work with real sensors rather than use simulated datasets is a must. You will be required to interface to various sensors from day one. You will have experience developing and debugging real-time, multithreaded software systems.
We are looking for someone that has had appropriate industry experience - or has very good academic experience with the skills described above. Good oral and written communication skills are required as position involves working with a diversified team of experienced professionals and customers. Some willingness to travel as required to achieve business results will be required. Genuine empathy with customer requirements and a strong tendency to champion customer positions within Zupt is also important.
