Summary: The Education Specialist develops and implements Project Discovery and Violence Prevention programming. Project Discovery, a college-and-career readiness program, educates underserved King and Queen County high school students on post-secondary pathways. Primary Prevention programming is designed to address intimate partner violence and teen dating violence. The position develops outreach and awareness campaigns designed to reduce incidents of interpersonal violence and reach the most vulnerable populations. The position will maintain confidential files and records, prepare reports for funders, and provide limited crisis intervention as assigned. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Director of Education. This is a full-time, benefit-eligible, 40-hours-per-week, non-exempt position (FTE 1).
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Facilitates Project Discovery workshops, college visits, enrichment trips, and civic engagement opportunities for enrolled students.
- Facilitates classroom presentations with evidence-based healthy relationship programming.
- Coordinates and develops community-based violence prevention programs. Coordinates and chaperones college campus visits and cultural enrichment.
- Establishes and maintains close working relationships with representatives from school divisions. Designs violence prevention outreach and awareness campaign material for youth.
- Collaborates with local agencies to provide services within the community.
- Develops educational materials for outreach programming.
- Attends training and educational programming for skill-building.
- Perform outreach to traditionally underserved populations.
- All staff are responsible for participating in community education events.
- All staff are responsible for providing community training that aligns with their area of expertise.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Ability to maintain a compassionate and professional approach while working with people in crisis situations who are of diverse ethnic, religious, national, educational, language, sexual orientation, cultural, and class backgrounds.
- Knowledge of programming for at-risk youth.
- Excellent writing, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong presentation skills.
- Adept with a variety of multimedia training platforms and methods.
- Ability to evaluate and research training options and alternatives.
- Ability to design and implement effective training and development.
- Extremely proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and related program software.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree with coursework in psychology, social work, or related field.
- Some experience in teaching, program development, prevention education, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Proof of adequate personal automobile insurance. Must be able to operate either an agency-owned vehicle, a rented vehicle or a personal vehicle on behalf of Thrive Virginia.
Physical Requirements:
