This position is a leadership position within the Division of Public Health. Under the general supervision of the Health Officer this position is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Environmental Health program.. The position coordinates assigned programs, assigns work, organizes and participates in meetings, and reviews and updates procedures. This position is responsible for unit operation, efficiency, and effectiveness, and upholds standards of practice, federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations.
SUPERVISION
This position assigns and monitors the work of the environmental health staff. In addition, this position provides input to the Health Officer on hiring decisions, disciplinary issues and performance evaluations for environmental health staff.

Act as leader over assigned areas, assisting with the development of objectives and ensuring that deliverables are met. Ensure that reports required to maintain environmental related funding are completed as required by the funding sources (i.e. grants, contracts, etc.). Provide reports timely to the Health Officer.
Develop partnerships and coordinate efforts to maximize impact on improvement of environmental health areas. Advance program quality and impact.
Actively participate in all mandatory health department assessment, planning and reporting activities, including DHS 140, strategic planning, accreditation, CHA/CHIP, performance management specific to environmental health impacts.
Collect, sample, and analyze water samples. Oversee laboratory operations.
Conduct childhood lead poisoning risk assessments as needed.
Contribute to the development and review of agency policies and procedures for environmental health services. Keep informed of local, state and federal laws and regulations that affect policy and procedures for the division.
Assist in budget development and monthly monitoring meetings.
Train in all division program systems. Maintain a working knowledge of systems to be able to troubleshoot with staff or refer to appropriate resource. Carry a case load of DNR water sampling systems, human health hazards, and childhood lead poisoning cases.
Oversee the accurate collection, processing and reporting of division programs’ data. Analyze the data, identify trends and develop interventions to address areas of concern.
Work with other departments and divisions in a cooperative and goal directed manner to achieve shared goals.
Participate in special projects as identified.
Plan and provide for ongoing education and training of the Environmental Health staff. Approve and ensure mandatory training for all staff.
Provide training for students and volunteers within the Public Health Division.
Demonstrate a commitment to county safety and risk management efforts.

Education and/or Experience
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Environmental Health, Biology, Microbiology, Chemistry, a physical science or a closely related field, plus three years of experience or full-time progressively responsible professional experience. Minimum of 1 year of analytical laboratory experience required through education or professional experience.
Proven experience in ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals as well as ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Knowledge of laboratory equipment and aseptic technique required. Knowledge of Trauma Informed Care principles is essential.

Registered Sanitarian within 12 months of hire
ICS 100, 200, 700 within 6 months of hire
ICS 300 and 400 within 12 months of hire
Valid driver’s license.
Proof of minimum auto liability insurance coverage.
