Assisting the provider in coordinating patient care and providing quality clinical expertise. The primary function of the technician is to triage the patients and obtain patient vital signs and patient history/problems. The technician is responsible for obtaining/relaying patient information from/to other providers, patient education, completing prior authorization forms and other duties as assigned. Technician is also responsible for assisting the provider with procedures as directed by the provider or site manager.
MINIMUM OR SPECIAL SKILLS REQUIRED:
High school graduate or equivalency; Graduate of Medical Technology or Assisting program, Graduate of an accredited school of Practical Nursing, Medical Terminology required. BLS certification preferred.
Typing skills of 35 wpm; Must be proficient with Microsoft Windows and Office products including Word and Excel.; pleasant, friendly manner; neat appearance; ability to perform duties without constant, direct supervision; ability to manage multiple priorities successfully; ability to speak, read and write English clearly and concisely using correct grammar and vocabulary.
MINIMUM PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
3-4 years in a medical setting preferred; 1-2 years work experience with personal computers and customer service.
LICENSURE/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED:
Medical Assistant, Medical Technician, or Licensed Practical Nurse in the state of Ohio.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Review charts before visit; record all tests from patient's previous visit.
- Meet and greet the patient.
- Escort the patient from the waiting room.
- Obtain blood pressure, weight, pulse, and height.
- Instructs, monitors and collects patient urine specimens for drug screens as needed.
- Injections assistance as needed.
- Procedure set-up
- Instructions for all procedures (preps and pre-test)
- Notification of test results to patients (as directed by provider)
- Calibration of blood pressure monitors
- Documenting of all patient medications; Assist with medication counts.
- Documentation of patient complaint and review of systems in EMR
- Notification of all lab results to providers.
- Review OARRS reports as needed and as requested by provider.
- Prior Authorization for medications ordered by the provider.
- Communication with appropriate individuals regarding medication regimens or protocols
- Notification to patients of admissions, testing, and procedures
- Phone back-up; Route calls to appropriate person, take messages, schedule office visits
- Triage patient calls and communication with physicians on any patient clinical questions.
- Write orders for lab and tests education and schedule if necessary.
- Maintains records in an organized and efficient manner.
- Maintains confidentiality regarding company business and patient information at all times
- Delivers appropriate forms to the patient for completion and checks forms for appropriate completion and signature. This includes but is not limited to:
- HIPPA requirements
- Patient History
- Demographic Information
- Changes in the patient status since last visit
- Retrieves messages from the phone system and communicates with the appropriate parties.
- Communicates with co-workers about the needs or issues with individual patients.
- Assists provider(s) with a variety of procedures.

- Collects information and completes urine-tox when physician has requested.
- Responsible for working assigned schedule, which may include evenings and weekends.
- Rotates from scheduling, pre-service through clerical functions as assigned by the supervisor.

- Performs other duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Ability to use keyboard; correctable vision to work at PC; Must be able to exchange accurate information on telephone. Requires full range of body motion including handling and oversight in the direction of the entire medical practice. Involves manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination under one third of the time. A person in this position needs to be stationary one-third of the time and moving two-thirds of the time. Occasionally moves items weighing up to 25 lbs.
ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS:
Possible frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, medical preparations, and other conditions common to a clinic environment.
MUST BE ABLE TO FLOAT BETWEEN OFFICES:
We have offices located in Fairlawn, Stow, Wadsworth, Medina, Streetsboro and Green. Our staff does often travel between locations.
