Job Summary
At Shade Tree Academy, we provide students with a supportive and trauma informed school environment. Shade Tree Academy is a private, trauma focused school, serving children whose lives have been impacted by foster care. We seek to provide a healing environment where our students can thrive! We’re searching for a qualified paraprofessional to join us in delivering high-quality support in the classroom. The ideal candidate has experience in this role and is flexible in adapting to the changing demands of a classroom. This person will work closely with an assigned teacher and provide support by working with students individually and in groups, assisting with lesson plans and materials, grading homework, and writing daily progress reports. In order to thrive in this role, the paraprofessional must be caring, compassionate, and committed to each student’s success.

Responsibilities
Responsibilities include providing individual and small group instruction, attending to students’ needs, organizing classroom materials, and maintaining collaborative relationships.
Required skills and qualifications
- Required qualifications: High school diploma or GED, experience working with students, effective communication skills, understanding of childhood development, familiarity with educational software, certification in first aid and CPR/BLS or ability to obtain and Level 1 fingerprint card or ability to obtain.
- Preferred qualifications: Associate’s degree in early childhood development or education, teaching certification, experience with special-needs students, and strong behavior management skills.
Professional Development
Commitment to ongoing training, Crisis Intervention Training (such as Nonviolent Crisis Intervention or Therapeutic Crisis Intervention), and Trauma-Informed Training.

Shade Tree Academy is a 501©(3) nonprofit organization affiliated with ASA Now. Founded by three foster/adoptive mothers, our mission is to empower children impacted by foster care trauma. We equip them with social and emotional skills to succeed in school and thrive in life.

- Position Details:
- Part-Time: The position operates on a part-time basis.
- School Hours: Monday through Thursday, 9 am to 2 pm. No school on Fridays.
