This position has direct responsibility for the delivery of a youth horticulture training program to youth in the Harris County Juvenile Detention System. The incumbent will work with youth, faculty, staff, and volunteers to provide horticulture training in vegetable production, nursery production, greenhouse management, and career planning.
Performs the duties below; other duties may be assigned as deemed necessary:
Coordinate and implement programs at juvenile centers (The Opportunity Center, Youth Village, HCLA, others)
Assists in the development and administration of educational enhancement programs
Ensures effective communication of pertinent information to all staff, including those from outside agencies and volunteers, and ensures adherence to daily scheduled activities and appropriate uniform
Ensures a safe and secure environment for participants, staff, and volunteers
Evaluates the work of staff and volunteers to ensure that programs are of appropriate quality and that resources are used effectively
Supports 4-H and Youth Development program in Harris County and assists with implementation of 4-H action plan.
Communicates effectively with members, families, volunteers, and other staff.
Develops partnerships with relevant public and private organizations.
Ability to work within budget restrictions, including grant budgets.
Secures public and private support through fundraising and local grants.
Gathers and prepares information to submit to media regarding events, activities, and members.
Assists in the marketing, promotion, and evaluation of 4-H Youth Development programs.
Plans and implements educational workshops for youth and volunteers related to 4-H programs.
