The Family Place (TFP) mission is to empower low-income families and to foster the optimal development of their young children through educational and support services. The Family Place PCS (TFPPCS) mission is to improve the literacy and workplace skills of adults who want to learn English, and improve their income and careers so that they and their families can have a better life, find employment, and become more active in their community.
Position Summary
The Family Place (TFP) seeks a dedicated Employment Specialist/Case Manager fluent in English and Spanish to provide comprehensive support in employment counseling, career readiness, and case management services. This role is pivotal in facilitating the integration of education and training programs, fostering career development initiatives, and collaborating with internal stakeholders, including the Chief Compliance Officer, Chief Academic Officer, and Director of Family Services. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a client-centered approach, ensuring equitable and effective care through individualized work plans, progress monitoring, and holistic support services. The candidate must be willing to collaborate with TFP and The Family Place Public Charter School (TFPPCS) staff, participants, and students to accomplish the organization's goals.
Employment specialist Responsibilities
- Engage families and cultivate a welcoming environment for participants.
- Conduct individual assessments to identify participant needs and establish goals.
- Conduct regular follow-ups with students to address barriers to academic success.
- Monitor participant progress and maintain comprehensive electronic case notes.
- Facilitate case management sessions to provide mentoring, coaching, and referrals as needed.
- Maintain flexibility with a schedule that includes evening shifts twice weekly.
- Provide career orientation and workforce preparation.
- Offer guidance and referrals related to employment, career advising, job placement, and retention services.
- Administer and document employment and post-secondary education surveys quarterly to ensure compliance with OSSE funding requirements.
- Support low-literacy adults in developing skills through work-based learning programs.
- Conduct career pathway orientation workshops for participants.
- Assist participants of the Child Development Associate program in transitioning to Early Childhood Education settings.
- Stay informed about local workforce needs and industry trends by attending community meetings, conferences, and forums.
- Provide additional support services as required.
Responsibilities as a Case Manager
- Provide information and referrals on social, health, legal, and educational resources available within the community.
- Collaborate with staff to organize and execute clothing and donation drives.
- Represent TFP at community fairs and strengthen partnerships with external stakeholders.
- Assist with registrations, events, and other administrative tasks as assigned.
- Provide reception and brief services support when needed.
- Follow up with charter school students who miss classes and help resolve attendance-related issues.
Qualifications and Skills Required
- Bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S.) in Human Resources, Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Education, or related field.
- Proficiency in both English and Spanish with excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Experience working with low-income families and underserved populations.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build positive relationships.
- Commitment to addressing issues impacting marginalized communities.
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment.
- Prior experience in employment counseling or workforce development is preferred.
- Preferred Certified Employment Support Professional (CESP) or Certified Workforce Development Professional (CWDP)
- Problem-solving abilities to identify barriers to employment and develop creative solutions.
- Familiarity with QuickBase, Microsoft Office suite, job application sites, and social media platforms.
- Exceptional organizational skills with keen attention to detail and effective time management.
