Position Description: Electrical Engineer
Ecompex, Inc. is currently recruiting an Electrical Engineer to be a part of an eight-person team providing project design and construction management services to support the US Coast Guard (USCG) Civil Engineering Unit Oakland (CEUO). The CEUO staff primarily supports Coast Guard units located on the West Coast and Pacific Area. The primary work will include all investigation and design services required to produce biddable design documents. You will perform site visits and develop designs as required for renovation, restoration and/or construction of modern or historic Coast Guard facilities for approximately 5 to 8 projects per year ranging in budget estimate from $100K to $1.5M.
Work location will be at Oakland, CA. Occasional travel may be required.
Full-Time, Salaried position. Approximately 40 hours per work week.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.
- Registration as a professional Electrical engineer. Equivalent foreign registration/license may be accepted.
- In-depth design experience in electrical engineering. This includes the ability to perform technical calculations in support of design objectives and perform analytical thinking and analysis when troubleshooting electrical systems. Evaluate designs and confirm compliance with nationally accepted building/seismic/life safety codes in accordance with Coast Guard guidance and be able to evaluate and manage the work of other designers to achieve design objectives.
- Knowledge and proven experience in Electrical Load Calculations, National Electrical Code Analysis, Short Circuit Calculation, Arc Flash Analysis, Overcurrent Protection Coordination, Photometric Analysis for indoor and outdoor lighting design, LEED Design, Renewable Energy Systems, Fire/Intrusion Alarm Systems, Commissioning, and Life Cycle Cost Analysis.
- In-depth project management expertise to include managing complex, multi-discipline, multi-faceted projects related to real property facilities. This includes planning, design, engineering drawing preparation, technical specification writing, cost estimating and contracting support of individual projects. This requires detailed analytical and problem-solving skills addressing complex technical and engineering problems, and the ability to bring them to resolution.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
Desired Qualifications:
- Previous experience supporting the US Coast Guard.
Required Skills:
- Knowledge and experience in using AutoCAD and electrical engineering software, such as Easy-Power, ETAP, SKM and Visual Professional, etc.
- Strong communication, written, and verbal skills
Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Provide design services to: rework/rehab/modernize electrical distribution within a built facility; replace/expand exterior distribution systems within a Coast Guard installation; load sizing for emergency generator installations; design pier shore-tie power systems for connection to ship-board power systems; scope/design fire alarm detection systems; scope/design access and intrusion detection systems; and troubleshoot electrical systems.
- Prepare design documents and/or scopes of work for A/E services, Design/Build services and construction work. This includes preparing drawings, technical specifications, cost estimates and other documents, when required, to support complex construction projects on sites with diverse climatic, geographic and environmental conditions. It also includes providing technical advice to contracting officers during negotiations.
- Coordinate with site contacts. Perform site investigation of project sites to gather essential data for new or renovation work.
- Prepare site visit reports. Conduct conceptual design meetings with all stakeholders.
- Coordinate with multi-discipline design support team members when work as a prime design engineer/project manager on multi-discipline projects. 3.6. Update enterprise database system for budgeting, project execution and construction management purposes.
- Provide in-house electrical engineering support; include consultation and contractor submittal reviews.
- Prepare minimum eight complete procurement packages per year.
