Play/Stay Coaches are responsible for the proper husbandry care of all daycare and boarding pets, including feeding, record keeping, bathing, routine body checks, individual and group activities. In addition, Play/Stay Coaches are responsible for the cleanliness of the enclosures, cleanliness of specific wards (Whisker City, Large Dog, Small Dogs etc.), and play equipment. They are also responsible for proper management of off leash groups of dogs, while maintaining safe and enriching playtime for the dogs.
Position Requirements:
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Some computer knowledge – must be able to use computer program to access patient information and complete reports.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Candidates must be a pet fanatic – pets are part of our family!
- Minimum of 1-year dog handling experience is preferred but not required.
PERSONAL REQUIREMENTS
The Play/Stay Coach must be able to:
- Be flexible in attitude and work habits.
- Maintain compassion and genuine enjoyment in working with animals and can deal with them even when they are stressed, ill or in pain.
- Handle large dogs while on a leash.
- Physical Effort: Work requires lifting and carrying items weighing up to 50 lbs.; requires standing for extended periods of time.
- Working Conditions: May be exposed to unpleasant odors, noises, animal dander and feces and disinfectant/sanitation chemicals. May be exposed to bites, scratches and contagious diseases.
Performance Expectations/Essential Job Duties:
HOSPITALITY
- Provide an elite-level of customer service; communicating with pet parents’ in a manner that makes them feel comfortable leaving their pet(s) in our care.
- Form and maintain bonds with pet parents during interactions.
- Conduct guided tours of the entire facility for pet parents, potential clients and visitors.
PATIENT CARE
- Provides compassionate care to patients.
- Understands every pet’s specific personality, needs, and preferences.
- Facilitates structured activities designed to address pets’ specific needs: physical engagement and mental stimulation, fitness, etc.
- Can start and supervise playgroups, sometimes separately, by actively overseeing and understanding pack dynamics, and working to create a positive and safe play environment.
- Can observe pet behavior, and intervene as necessary to prevent fights and injury to patients.
- Actively encourages play/interaction between patients and patient activity.
- Can feed each patient as the pet parent has requested and records appetites.
- Can recognize and report any unusual condition or abnormal behavior. Conducts routine body checks.
- Can follow a regular schedule for cleaning/sanitizing all kennels, wards and related areas; changes litter box and food/water bowls.
- Can administer medication to daycare/boarding patients when necessary.
- Promptly cleans/mops up after patients when they eliminate.
- Can give baths, dry and brush out patients.
- Can receive and discharge patients from boarding, ensuring that all personal items are checked-in or returned to pet parents, that patients are clean and properly groomed before departure and that all patients are fully checked-out by a CSR.
- Can start and supervise playgroups as needed.
FACILITY MAINTENANCE
- Maintain the appearance and cleanliness of the kennels, specific wards and group rooms. Thoroughly cleaning the floor of each area at the end of each day, or during the day as needed.
- Clean and sanitize all items at end of each day, or during day as needed.
- Maintains laundry for the entire facility (daycare/boarding, grooming and veterinary).
PERSONAL CONDUCT/ATTITUDE/TEAMWORK
- Can maintain positive, cooperative relationships with other employees.
- Can display tact and respect with team members even when busy or hectic.
- Feel and express a genuine liking for animals and their owners and for working in an animal care field.
OTHER
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Type: Temporary
Pay: $18.00 - $22.00 per hour
