MSA assists the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) in developing leading-edge technologies to counter WMD in support of CCMDs and transitioning these technologies to services and SOCOM. Team MSA provides expertise across the full range of chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and high-yield explosives (CBRNE) WMD, Counter Improvised Threat, and Countering Threat Network technologies to support understanding, detection, identification, characterization, denial, control, disabling, defeating, disposing, safeguarding the force, managing consequences, and test and evaluation in support of military and civilian operations.
Overview:
DTRA provides advice, assistance, and wargaming capabilities to support combatant commander and military services staffs with their wargaming scenarios and exercises. DTRA RD NTA developed a software tool called Mission Impact of Nuclear Events Software (MINES), which allows the wargaming user to insert nuclear events into wargames to make the scenarios more realistic. As a leader in research and development, DTRA is developing upgrades to its MINES tool to provide leadership and decision-makers with more information to continue to fight through these nuclear events and win the battle in a CBNRE environment.
Responsibilities:
The successful candidate serves as a technical/military advisor and resource to the Defense Threat Reduction Agency's (DTRA) Nuclear Technologies Department. The candidate is responsible for providing technical advice and assistance to the government on all aspects of wargaming, including scheduling, annual exercises, and the ability to effectively liaison with combatant commander staff, military services staff, and other agencies as directed. The candidate must have experience with and knowledge of nuclear weapons, weapons effects, radiation impacts, military operations, and wargaming.
The candidate will be required to: (1) work on technical projects that require technical or industry knowledge; (2) resolve complex technical issues, conduct advanced engineering research, and recommend alterations to development and design; (3) prepare technical documentation and presentations to explain the approach, associated assumptions and conclusions of scientific research or investigations; (4) integrate and coordinate work within the department and other departments as assigned; (5) be responsible for risk management and quality control efforts; and (6) apply technical expertise directly to work efforts.

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelors in any STEM field such as Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related technical field. Have two years of related experience in the military, industry, or an engineering or scientific function, including research.
- Experience with preparation of technical documentation and presentations to explain the approach, associated assumptions, conclusions, and recommendations.
- Demonstrated experience conducting briefing to managers and stakeholders
- Ability to work with common office productivity software (e.g., Microsoft Office, Skype, Windows, SharePoint)
- Ability to translate requirements and observations into clearly defined written products (briefings, reports, White Papers) in short timeframes
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Can work independently.
- Secret clearance with the ability to receive and hold a TS clearance
Desired Qualifications
- Current TS clearance.
- Masters or Doctorate in Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, or related STEM field and four years of experience in military, related industry, or academia.
- Work experience in operations research or operations analysis.
- Working knowledge of common software languages, such as Python, Matlab, SQL, C++, etc.
- Demonstrated experience as a liaison officer or experience working on a large staff, such as Joint Staff, Office of the Secretary of Defense, or other military services staff.
- Project Management Experience.
