Job Title: Community Coach
This position is Per Diem (may range from 5-20 hours), and the hours are flexible and based on the needs of the participants.
DDSP Community Coach description:
The Community Coach provides individualized support to connect individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities (I/DD) with to their communities and assists the individual in acquiring and maintaining his or her independent living skills.
- Provide assistance and skills training/coaching including but not limited to the following areas:
- Participation in community activities and new experiences
- Assessing the individual to determine his or her community, volunteer, and/or work interests
- Socialization and building positive relationships
- Behavior management skills; Eliminating maladaptive behaviors
- Communication skills
- Travel training; including the use of public transit
- Problem solving skills
- Following directions, task completion
- Develop employment readiness skills
- Helping to develop appropriate attitudes and work habits
- Adjusting to the demands of volunteer site or workplac
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or GED required, some college preferred.
- Minimum one year experience providing direct services to individuals with a developmental disability.
- We are seeking candidates who enjoy active, "people-oriented" work and are sensitive to the needs and preferences of people with disabilities.
- Basic knowledge of computer applications.
- Ability to travel to New York City communities.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $16.00 per hour
Schedule:
- Monday to Friday
- Weekends as needed
Education:
- High school or equivalent (Required)
Experience:
- DSP: 1 year (Required)
- community habilitation: 2 years (Required)
License/Certification:
- Driver's License (Required)
Ability to Relocate:
- Queens, NY: Relocate before starting work (Required)
