Duties
What will I do in this position if hired?
In this Supervisory Environmental Protection Specialist position, you will serve in the Region 5 Mitigation Division.
Typical assignments include:
- Serving as the Environmental and Historic Preservation Advisor onsite at FEMA declared disasters.
- Coordinating between disaster field leadership and Region 5 environmental leadership.
- Supervising a team of Environmental Planners and Historic Preservation Specialists.
- Overseeing environmental & historic preservation compliance reviews for FEMA Public Assistance disaster grants.
- Conducting or initiating EHP training at the local, state, Tribal, and regional levels, including developing materials.
- Disseminating technical and regulatory information through briefings, documents, workshops, conferences, seminars, and/or public hearings.
- Providing technical assistance to FEMA Public Assistance staff during project formulation and grant processing.

To qualify for this Supervisory Environmental Protection Specialist position at the IC-13 level, you must possess one full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the IC-12 level in the Federal government, which has equipped you with the skills needed to successfully perform the duties of the position. Experience may be obtained in the federal government, a state or local government, or private sector, and must demonstrate the following:
- Leading a team in the delivery of environmental and historic preservation compliance;
- Reviewing staff environmental compliance determinations with regulations (e.g. National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), National Historic Preservation Act, Endangered Species Act, etc.); and
- Coordinating and monitoring work related to Environmental and Historic Preservation at the federal, state, tribal or local level.
