How can you grow with Nufarm?
Under the supervision of the Chicago Heights Packaging Production Manager, the Packaging Supervisor on 2nd Shift (3:30pm - Midnight) is responsible for planning, directing and guiding the day to day packaging activities of the hourly work force. Responsibilities include but are not limited to training co-workers to maintain high standards with respect to safety, quality, productivity, and customer satisfaction.
What will you be doing?
The duties and responsibilities of the Packaging Supervisor include, but are not limited to:
Safety:
- Uphold PSM processes and support the PSM program.
- Train co-workers to practice safe and efficient work techniques to minimize potential injuries and hazardous conditions.
- Ensure co-workers attend and participate in safety meetings and inspections.
- Routinely inspect and ensure equipment for proper maintenance, repair or renewal as required.
- Ensure that co-workers wear the appropriate safety attire and protective equipment at all times and maintain the highest standards of equipment cleanliness, safety & housekeeping.
- Ensure that safety investigations (UIR/IR) are promptly addressed and followed upon.
- Conduct safety tool box topic discussions daily at the start of the shift.
Housekeeping:
- Lead by example to ensure that co-workers maintain acceptable levels of housekeeping at all times with regard to equipment and their assigned work area and/or department.
- Ensure that all areas of responsibilities are kept neat and orderly.
Quality:
- Ensure that all quality protocols and standard operating procedures are followed.
- Ensure all contamination prevention codes of practice and verifications are being followed.
- Participate as needed in Continuous Process Improvement initiatives. Applies continuous improvement tools and approaches to the operation of all manufacturing equipment.
Supervision & Leadership:
- Process driven focus to uphold plant efficiencies and cycle times.
- Metric and analytics to understand objectives towards safety, quality, and schedule compliance.
- Plan, organize and direct the work of the hourly co-workers in assigned department to meet customer requirements and achieve maximum productivity according to budgeted objectives.
- Lead and motivate the workforce in a positive manner and effectively handle employee concerns including, but not limited to, training, coaching, counselling, discipline and conflict resolution.
- Comply with and enforce standard company policies and work rules to foster positive employee morale, enhanced productivity and a fair and equitable work environment.
- Assign packaging orders to co-workers according to established priorities and communicate special instructions to line workers and fillers, including length of time and type of packaging.
- Participates in the interviewing and selection process for production co-workers.
- Participates in location leadership team meetings and communicate departmental needs to other shifts and departments.
- Ensure Management of Change (MOC) process is followed.
- Ensure co-workers hours are submitted to the payroll system as required.
Qualifications:
- Candidates must possess 3-5 years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Ideal candidate will possess a college degree with a concentration in business, engineering, operations management or related field. Will consider candidates with Associates degree and 5+ years of relevant work experience or without a degree but substantial supervisory/leadership experience.
- Demonstrated experience in dealing with safety, environmental, and regulatory matters.
- Ideal candidate would be familiar and experienced with PSM processes in a manufacturing environment.
- Ideal candidate would possess certification in RCRA/EPA Hazardous Waste Management. If not, certified company will aid in becoming certified within 6 months of being awarded the position.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as the ability to lead and motivate others.
- Experience with continuous improvement methodology and processes.
- Strong computer proficiency is required.
- Strong analytical skills and data-based approach to decision making.
- Strong conflict resolutions and team development skills are required.
