Employee will be responsible for numerous functions consistent with the operation of a police vehicle impoundment facility and providing code enforcement duties pertaining to the abandonment of vehicles. The position requires both working in the office setting and working outside in elements. The position can require strenuous physical work at times. The employee will be tasked with utilization of heavy-duty equipment, predominantly tow trucks/or other machinery on occasion, as trained.
Primary responsibilities include, but not limited to; ensuring the proper removal, identification, recover and disposition of impounded and abandoned motor vehicles and bicycles within Montgomery County.
Duties also include:
o Handling abandoned vehicle complaints; consisting of receiving, documenting, investigating, taking appropriate action, and maintaining logs/records of complaints.
o Ability to self-initiate investigations of potential violations discovered in the field.
o Ability to perform vehicle intake and storage lot duties to include receiving vehicle check- in.
o Inspecting vehicles for damage and contents.
o Documenting the intake, photographing, and inventorying impounded vehicles.
o Appropriately storing property.
o Maintaining lot security and maintenance of the yard.
o Operating tow trucks to tow.
o Moving and repositioning vehicles.
o Ensuring the proper release of vehicles.
Additional duties are assisting customer walk-ins and answering the phone, handling the front counter operation to include the release of vehicles, handling monetary transactions, filing and maintaining case file integrity, entering cases into an electronic database and interacting with customers in a professional and courteous manner; facilitating the collection, processing and sales of abandoned motor vehicles, answering all inquiries concerning impounded vehicles pertaining to State and County Laws, vehicle titling and registration laws and procedures for legal release, department rules and regulations and the appropriateness of towing in specific instances; operating automated office information and personal computers to send and receive emails/documents, conducting Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD), and Mobile Terminal Data (MDT), entries and query databases for vehicle ownership, lien holder, and stolen information.
Lastly, identifying and marking abandoned vehicles for subsequent removal and coordinate daily run of police approved tow companies for effective and timely removal of abandoned and impounded vehicles; preparing routine reports, statistical information, handling of other assigned administrative functions and correspondence; communicating and receiving messages via a police radio; determining and issuing release of impounded vehicles to owners and lien holders; maintaining accounts of monies, operating a cash register Point of Service System (POS), and performing duties as assigned for the preparation of auction vehicles and duties during auctions.
