Position: Lead Teacher: Pre-Kindergarten (Preschool: 3 & 4 year olds)
Full Time, Salaried: The position includes five full days per week in the classroom (7:45am-3:30pm), as well as recess duties, faculty meetings and additional time outside of this schedule for parent teacher conferences and school events. The position includes benefits.
Position Description: Plymouth Meeting Friends School is seeking an experienced lead teacher for our Pre-Kindergarten class. The Lead Teacher works directly with 3 and 4 year old students to deliver a highly interactive, play-based program. Responsibilities include planning and implementing an active, integrated curriculum, and collaborating with the Assistant Teacher and PMFS colleagues in a creative, dynamic, values-based learning community. The Pre-Kindergarten Lead Teacher plans, supports and engages in the creation and execution of the preschool program grounded in play with academic intention. Pre-Kindergarten at Plymouth Meeting Friends School offers a rich social, play-based atmosphere carefully planned to provide exploration, discovery and skill development. Experiential and project-based learning support students’ emerging social-emotional and communication skills. Outdoor exploration and open-ended activities nurture their sense of wonder and develop their critical thinking skills. The successful candidate will have experience with:
- Establishing a positive classroom community and culture of belonging
- Implementing strong classroom management skills
- Creating and implementing an integrated and experiential play-based curriculum
- Utilizing collaborative and community-building approaches to learning
- Understanding the intellectual, social-emotional and physical development of 3 and 4 year olds
- Supporting young children in using tools for effective communication and conflict resolution
The ideal candidate is passionate about teaching preschool-age children and committed to supporting their developmental stages, with a strong grasp of current progressive early childhood education research and practices. They should excel in building relationships, demonstrate cultural competence, and possess strong written and verbal communication skills.
Qualifications: A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in early childhood or early elementary education is required. Applicants are expected to have at least three years of preschool classroom experience. Facility with usage and integration of technology are required. A strong alignment with Quaker testimonies and progressive education—in philosophy and teaching practice-- is expected.
