Job Summary:
The assistant payroll administrator will help oversee and direct all payroll procedures while ensuring compliance with applicable laws and payroll taxes. They must be able to problem solve, resolve payroll-related issues/complaints and meet strict working deadlines. Professionalism and a positive attitude are a must.

Responsibilities:
· Process payroll account transactions.
*Salaries, benefits, garnishments, deductions, taxes & third-party payments
· Processing of payroll changes and system upgrades/updates; reviews and approves changes.
*New hire payroll input, termination payout, raises, status/position changes, division transfers
· Assist in overseeing the daily workflow of the department.
· Completes operational requirements by scheduling and assigning employees work and following up on work product.
· Maintains payroll information by directing the collection, calculation, and entering of data.
· Liaise with auditors and manage payroll tax audits.
· Collaborate with Human Resources (HR) and accounting teams as needed/necessary.
Other Duties/Responsibilities:
· Coordinate timekeeping and payroll systems.
· Ensure compliance with relevant laws and internal policies and procedures.
· Maintain accurate records and prepare required reports.
*Compiles summaries of earnings, taxes, deductions, leave, disability and nontaxable wages
· Determines payroll liabilities by approving the calculation of employee federal and state income and social security taxes, and employers’ social security, unemployment and workers compensation payments.
Required Skills/Abilities:
· Payroll experience required and proficiency in all payroll aspects.
· Knowledge of JD Edwards is highly desirable.
· Meticulous attention to detail.
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to speak up and ask questions.
· “Out-of-the-box” thinker.
· Understanding of garnishments/writs/child support orders.
· Job costing and state withholding.
· Insurance billings.
· Previous managerial experience desirable
· Excellent interpersonal skills.
· Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
· Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
· Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.

· Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
Education and Experience:
5+ years payroll experience required
Intermediate to Advanced Microsoft Excel preferred
Experience with JD Edwards, or other ERP systems a plus
Minimum 2-year accounting degree
Bachelor’s degree in accounting preferred but not required
Physical Requirements:
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
