Desktop Ink Virtual Assistance is seeking a Virtual Assistant on behalf of our client, Life After Justice. This is a part-time position (10-20 hours per week). Applicants from Eastern and Central time zones preferred.
Job Summary
Life After Justice (LAJ) fights to free the wrongfully convicted and provides support in reclaiming their lives. Created by exonerees, the majority exoneree-led Board of Directors’ approach is rooted in the knowledge, expertise and understanding from the lived experience of its leadership.
LAJ’s three-pronged approach is designed to free innocent individuals and contribute to systemic changes by:
● strategically litigating cases to change policies and laws;
● providing a network of holistic mental health, well-being, and technology services to support exonerees in rebuilding their lives; and
● advocating on behalf of exonerees and their families within state and federal governments to establish an ecosystem of support and empowerment beyond monetary awards.
The Virtual Assistant will be expected to strongly believe in our mission and be a multi-faceted support position for a startup non-profit. This position involves a broad spectrum of responsibilities, including the completion of diverse administrative tasks and vital contributions to the daily operations of the Life After Justice Team. As part of the role, they will also be responsible for managing email communications, and scheduling meetings using videoconferencing platforms such as Zoom. A strong internet connection is essential for this role and great comfort using tools like Zoom, Gmail, Google Calendar, and Google Drive. The Virtual Assistant should be able to communicate with key partners and clients, with minimal supervision.
The ideal candidate is proactive, and solutions oriented. If inefficiencies arise, they can develop systems to improve workflow. The candidate should be comfortable taking on various roles and responsibilities as needed to support the organization’s evolving needs.
Roles & Duties
Core duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
● Email Management: Promptly and effectively respond to emails.
● Organize meetings and 1:1 calls, including scheduling Zoom calls and phone calls
● Assist with coordination across the LAJ Team.
● Provide support to external partners/ team, including but not limited to CPAs, the development team, consultants, auditors, social media team, PR team, insurance agents, and other stakeholders, to ensure seamless cooperation and project execution.
● Communicate with and provide support to board members in addressing their requests and ensuring their needs are met.
● Support the Executive Director (ED) as they direct, plan, and coordinate operational activities for LAJ.
● Act as point of contact between the ED and external parties.
● Manage the ED’s calendar.
● Assist with preparation of meeting agendas, materials, reports, meeting minutes, and presentations for both internal and external meetings.
● Make travel arrangements and detailed travel itineraries.
● Attend meetings and calls, taking dictation and minutes and writing them up subsequently.
● Receive and manage correspondence related to LAJ's operations and take immediate and necessary actions as required.
● Efficiently organize the organization's contracts, including insurance policies, licenses to operate in various states, and contracts with vendors. Ensure that all contracts are up-to-date and compliant.
● Draft letters, documents, board reports and correspondence on behalf of the ED.

Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $25.00 per hour
