As a member of the executive team, theChief of Staff oversees one or more College administrative functions to meet strategic goals and provide responsive, cost-effective, and high-quality services and programs. They plan, implement and manage key programs with responsibility for budget, personnel, and daily operations and coordinate and participate in key College and University-wide committees, advisory groups, and board-related activities.
Reporting directly to theDean of CUNY School of Law. The Chief of Staff works closely with Senior/Associate/Assistant Deans, directors, faculty and staff. They will be a member of the Deans cabinet. They will provide senior-level support and manage highly visible, complex projects and activities on behalf of the Dean partnerships, operations,outreachandboardrelatedactivitiesonschedule.
ThedutiesandresponsibilitiesoftheChief of Staffwillincludebutarenotlimitedto;
- Providing leadership and direction for the Dean’s ongoing projects and strategic planning initiatives to ensure thatall are effectively moving according to plan, objectives and established milestones.
- Developingandcultivatingeffectiveprofessionalrelationshipsinordertointeractwiththelawschool’scommunity, leadership,officesofthedean’s,VIPsandexternalorganizationstohelpfurtherthelawschool’srelations,visionfor thelawschoolandpublicaffairsgoals,whileactingasaliaisonfortheDean.
- Serve as the primary contact for stakeholders and college partners and represent the Dean at internal and external meetings.
- Recommending, developing, implementing, and evaluating methods, policies, procedures, and systems to bestsupport the Dean. Oversee the ECP performance management process. Troubleshoot and resolve issues that may arise requiring the Dean’s attention
- Working with Foundation Board of Directors, including but not limited to supporting the recruitment process for prospectiveandnewboardmembers,supportingtheongoingengagementofexistingmembers,andfacilitatingcommunicationbetweenthelawschoolandFoundationboard.
- Handle matters of the greatest confidentiality, and provide confidential support and guidance to the dean, other executives, and senior staff members.
- Managing all scheduling and planning for the Dean’s appearances/speeches, VIP campus visits andevents.
- SupervisinganddirectingthestaffintheOfficeoftheDean.
- Preparing speeches, talking points, event briefings, and various correspondences on behalf of the Dean, inconjunction with the Director of Communications and Marketing
- MayincludegrantwritingfortheDean’sOffice.
This position may include evening and weekend hours.
Qualifications
This position is in CUNY's Executive Compensation Plan. All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and eight years of related experience, preferably in higher education administration. Additional qualifications are defined below:
Master’s degree or other advanced degree
Higher Education background, with experience in public institutions, is highly desirable.
Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills, both oral and written, as well as excellent judgment and a record of effectiveness in conflict resolution.
Must be able to work effectively as a member of the senior staff, independently, and proactively.
High level of diplomacy and confidentiality required.
Ability to represent the Office of the Dean to internal and external constituencies.

Compensation And Benefits
$155,000-$165,000
Salary commensurate with education and experience.
