Senior Manufacturing Process Engineer (Department of Defense Contracting-NSWC Indian Head Division)
This is an onsite position - Remote or Hybrid work is not available.
The primary purpose of the Senior Process Engineer is to support the propellant grain production programs team for Global Military Products, with support from our partner, the Naval Surface Warfare Center Indian Head Division (NSWC IHD) located in Indian Head, MD.
The manufacturing process engineering role will interface and work hand in hand with the process engineering counterparts at NSWC IHD, integrating and fostering a functional integrated product team (IPT). Core responsibilities include Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) development, process development, production tooling designs, testing and support for installation of automated production equipment.
The Sr. Process Engineer will reside in the Global Military Products Indian Head office location with regular travel inside the Naval base to work with IPT members and manage the status of the programa. The Sr. Process Engineer should be able to obtain a Secret Security Clearance within a 3-month timeframe.
The Sr. Process Engineer should have very good communication skills, be able work within the IPT structure and be a strong independent thinker.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Manufacturing liaison for Global Military Products at IHD.
- Develop, evaluate, and identify technical requirements from contractual, military, and industry standards documents.
- Support the process development activities conducted by NSWC IHD engineering and ensure the process will safely yield product in accordance with the requirements of the Technical Data Package.
- Develop, incorporate, and implement cost effective, reliable, and efficient manufacturing process and associated verification and inspection methods.
- Evaluate production, inspection, and test data to verify compliance to contractual requirements and identify areas of improvement.
- Prepare technical presentations and represent company at meetings and conferences with industry community, suppliers, and customers.
- Maintain awareness/knowledge of latest technical developments related to Global Military Products' business.
- Assist the program management team in maintaining a final production design and plan that shall meet the financial requirements/goals of the project.
- Assignments require proficiency in wide variety of engineering principles and scientific theory such as statistics, dimensional and geometric analysis, thermo-chemical analysis, computer simulation, psychrometric analysis, material properties analysis, as well as manufacturing techniques.
- Responsible for helping ensure final product quality and maintaining schedule and budget requirements
- Responsible for helping to foster a safety-first culture from project initiation.
- Support the Engineering IPT and build a good relationship with IHD Engineering counterparts.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Ability to multitask with high attention to detail
- Excellent time management and strong organizational skills
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Chemical or Mechanical preferred)
- 7-10 years working experience in related fields
- At least 6 years of experience in Ammunition and Explosive (A&E) programs
- Experience with DoD acquisition process, and DoD contracting requirements
- Experience with hazardous chemicals and energetics process hazard analysis
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Self-starter with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required
- ISO 9001:2015 training preferred
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Project)
Physical Demands & Abilities
- Regularly spend long hours sitting and using office equipment and computers
- Regularly move from sitting to standing positions effortlessly
- Occasional travel to suppliers and customers facilities, including Indian Head Naval base.
- Ability to obtain a Secret Security clearance.
Working Conditions
- Work will be completed in an office environment and includes some travel.
