EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to
customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved
written or oral instructions.
Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete
variables in standardized situations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Orders all appropriate tests in LIS system.
2. Ensures the correct tubes and specimen containers have been submitted or collected for the appropriate test ordered and are labeled correctly.
3. Ensures CAP, UMPA, and GLP (when appropriate ) guidelines are followed during processing procedures.
4. Determines acceptability of specimens.
5. Spins, separates, stores and distributes specimens to the appropriate area.
6. Prepares specimens for reference labs according to laboratory protocol.
7. Ensures specific guidelines are followed for various laboratory studies.
