A Brief Overview
The Respiratory Care Aide is an employee who works under the direction and supervision of the Manager of the Respiratory Care Department in performing the necessary duties, which assist in the cleaning, maintenance, set-up, and control of all equipment and supplies used by the Respiratory Care Department. The Respiratory Care Aide will be responsible for the ordering and maintenance of an adequate inventory of supplies.
What you will do
-
Equipment Assists and facilitates in the set-up and calibration of equipment and supplies. Properly cleans and sterilizes all none disposable equipment.

Is knowledgeable and proficient in the set-up, calibration and maintenance of all respiratory delivery deceives as per policy and procedures.

Labels faulty equipment with a description of the problem on the appropriate form and takes to Biomed Department for repair on a daily basis.

Is knowledgeable in aseptic and sterile technique as it pertains to respiratory equipment (gas, liquid and steam sterilization).

Keeps work area neat and clean at all times.

Documents all aspects of respiratory equipment maintenance.

Informs manager of significant developments in the following areas in a timely manner: equipment status, progress of daily assignments, unusual incidence, and anticipated problems.

Ordering and Supply Maintenance Orders, stocks, and maintains an adequate inventory of equipment and supplies.

Demonstrates a working knowledge in the use of the hospital’s computerized ordering system.

Demonstrates a working knowledge of all equipment in the department.

Demonstrates knowledge and proficiency in stocking and inventory of all related equipment and supplies.

Maintains supplies in an orderly manner.

Demonstrates a working knowledge and maintenance of all medical compressed gas cylinders.

Education Qualifications

High School Diploma / GED Required
-
Associate's Degree Healthcare Sciences field of study Preferred
Experience Qualifications
-
At least one (1) year hospital experience or equivalent technical experience in a health care related field Required

Basic Use of MS Word 2007

Navigation and basic search functions of the Internet using Internet Explorer

Use of Outlook 2007 email, opening of attachments, attaching new files to emails and saving attached files to computer

Basic use of computers, printers, monitors, and Fax machines

Information Literacy

Use of Internet and Intranet to look up basic electronic resources for practice.

Ability to find and navigate the Department of Respiratory Care website and related linked CHOP resource sites
Licenses and Certifications

Basic Life Support (BLS) - issued through on organization that requires a hands-on instructor lead psychomotor skills verification (ex. American Heart Association or Red Cross). - upon hire - Required
