Summary: Provides prescribed medical treatment and services to patients in the MSC, as directed by the physician, by performing the following duties:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Interviews patients to determine medical problem/condition and documents in chart for physician. Documentation must include a summary list of all significant diagnosis, procedures, drug allergies, and medications.
Obtains and records patient's vital signs, weight and height.
Assists physician with patient examination and follow up care as needed.
Reviews physician's orders, lab requests, or follow-up needs with patient.
Documents services performed for billing purposes.
Performs patient treatments per physician order.
Observes patients and reports adverse reactions to medication or treatment to medical personnel in charge.
Administers specified medication, orally or by subcutaneous or intramuscular injection or intravenous (LPN exempt), and notes time and amount on patients' charts.
Sterilizes equipment and supplies.
Maintains supplies, including stocking and ordering of new supplies and disposing of expired or damaged supplies.
Responds to patient telephone inquiries by evaluating and responding to the patient's problems and questions.
Follows up with patients who miss appointments.
Follows up with patients on lab results, including the scheduling of any additional tests.
Coordinates referrals for patients through insurance and other physician offices.
Schedules patient appointments according to specialists' requirements and needs.
Answers phones using appropriate telephone etiquette.
Greets patients upon arrival.
Utilizes downtime to review patient’s charts, labs, x-rays, physician’s dictation, etc.
Cleans exam tables on a weekly or as needed basis.
Communicates to physician, family and support staff, and pertinent information on the patient's condition when warranted.
Assists with scheduling, precertification and pre-procedure instructions for patients having surgical/endoscopic procedures.
Understands and complies with HIPAA mandates for dissemination of clinical patient information when requested by payor sources and other healthcare providers.
Abstracts data from records and maintains statistics.
Assists with continuous quality improvement activities
Assists with policy and procedure review.
Provides input for budgetary items.
Floats to Outpatient/PACU and MSC to assist with perioperative and clinic patients.

Education and/or Experience: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing and a minimum of 3-5 years experience in nursing preferred, with administrative ability as well as demonstrated good nursing practice required.
Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general medical periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, physicians, employees, patients, families and the general public.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Computer Skills: Basic PC skills required.
