Position Summary: The Program Coordinator reports to the Executive Director for Arts Education and serves as an integral member of the Arts Education team. The Program Coordinator will support strategic priorities, coordinate key divisional day-to-day activities, engage with stakeholders internal and external to the NYC Public Schools (NYCPS), and complete relevant administrative tasks. Performs related work.

Key Relationships: Staff throughout Arts Education; offices and departments within the Division of School Leadership and other Divisions within the Department of Education as appropriate including the following: Strategic Partnerships; Communications and Media Relations; as well as the Fund for Public Schools. In addition, the Special Assistant works closely with the Department of Cultural Affairs and other city agencies on programs and projects related to arts education.
Responsibilities
- Assists the Executive Director with ongoing support for schools in need of increasing Arts Education offerings for students including professional development for school leaders and instructional staff.
- Works closely with the Executive Director and the Fund for Public Schools, foundations, corporations, and not-for-profit organizations to expand opportunities for arts achievement in the public schools.
- Completes research and analysis to inform recommendations to the Executive Director on the development of internal policies and procedures to ensure compliance with City, State, and Federal regulations around the management and implementation of Arts education programs.
- Assists the Executive Director in developing communication between committee meetings, setting agendas, creating initial drafts of communications to key strategic team members, and helping to prioritize plans for addressing issues that impact progress towards initiative benchmarks.
- Manages critical strategic initiatives assigned by the Executive Director.
- Prepares briefing memos and relevant updates for the Executive Director on policy issues, outstanding projects, and activities; identifies issues, develops contingencies, and suggests remedies.
- Advises the Executive Director and Arts leadership in the execution of strategic planning which includes setting goals, developing budget proposals, and identifying areas for alignment.
- Provides insight and guidance to staff members and partners.
- Acts as the designee of the Executive Director on all issues pertaining to the Arts budget, staffing, communications, and related activities.
- Manages knowledge development and sharing to support the Arts Education team.
- Drafts recommendations and talking points for the Executive Director for key stakeholders.
- Supports the management of day-to-day operations of the office.
- Develops accountability measures and organizational interventions to improve impact.
- Supports the budget and staffing aspects for Arts Education, including the preparation and administration of budgets and in the conduct of complex research and studies.
- Identifies opportunities to improve efficiencies within the office and manages the implementation of improvements and policies.
- Represents the Executive Director at meetings and conferences as required.
- Supports the work of the Arts leadership team.
- Provides short-term project management support to multiple teams across Arts.
- Responds to time-sensitive escalations on behalf of the Executive Director.
- Supports the Executive Director in reviewing and approving content and pricing aspects of contract development with organizations wishing to provide Arts Education support services for schools.
Qualification Requirements:
Minimum
- A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two (2) years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
- High school graduation or equivalent and six (6) years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
- Education and/or experience which is equivalent to “1” or “2” above. However, all candidates must have at least one (1) year of experience as described in “1” above.

- Strong data analysis and presentation skills; able to organize and present facts and figures in a clear, concise, and logical manner, both orally and in writing.
- Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills, as well as an established level of comfort when analyzing and presenting data to executive management.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and experience in building relationships with diverse constituencies.
- Flexible, optimistic approach; committed to overcoming obstacles.
- Self-starter with an entrepreneurial spirit.
- Familiarity with the NYCPS.
Salary: $58,964 - $91,533
(Internal candidates who are selected for this position and who currently hold comparable or less senior positions within the DOE will not earn less than their current salary.)
