Thunderbird Challenge Program needs mature individuals to lead, supervise, train & mentor at-risk teens in a quasi-military structured, residential environment.
Cadre Team Leaders supervise the daily activities of cadets to include eating, instructional/recreational activities and work details. Cadet Team Leaders also train cadets in group living, life skills, physical fitness, leadership/followership, and community service.
Our Cadre Team Leaders work to foster esprit de corps within each cadet platoon by utilizing leadership skills, understanding & integrity. Team Leaders work in direct supervision of teens so a command presence and the ability to remain calm and focused in stressful situations is a must.

Basic Purpose: Monitor, supervise and train 35 to 50 at risk youth (ages 15 to 18) in the voluntary Oklahoma Youth Challenge Program (Thunderbird Challenge Program a.k.a Thunderbird Youth Academy). Cadets live at the program during the 22-week residential portion of the program. Shift work is required and shifts could vary depending on program needs.
Essential Functions:
- Maintain accountability of assigned platoon at all times
- Maintain discipline, security, and safety utilizing military training principles and practices.
- Develop a team-oriented attitude within platoon
- Mentor/role model for assigned cadets
- Conduct first line counseling and problem solving
- Primary instructor in marching, Drill and Ceremony and group living skills
- Direct and participate in cadet physical training
- Transport and supervise cadets during Community Service projects/off post activities
- Produce and maintain supporting documentation and evaluations for assigned cadets
- Perform additional tasks as required/assigned

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Military background preferred, but not necessary*. Some background, work experience with youth or in juvenile center operations helpful, but not required. Desire to work with at risk youth and make a positive impact.

Education and Experience: High School diploma or GED - Degree not required.
Licenses/Certificates required: Valid Drivers License. Possession of or ability to obtain a Commercial Driver License (CDL) with passenger endorsement within 1 year of employment. Upon completion of CDL requirement full time Team Leaders will receive an increase in salary to $40,000 per year.

Physical Requirements:
- Requires long periods of standing and walking indoors and outdoors throughout the day
- Working in conditions of both high and low temperatures
- Ability to climb stairs
- Ability to run a mile and walk extended distances
- Ability to do pushups, side straddle hops, sit ups and other physical training and fitness activities
- Ability to teach and perform physical training to cadets as outlined by the Presidents Challenge for Physical Fitness
- Ability to drive or ride in a vehicle for extended distances
Location: This position is located at Thunderbird Challenge Program (TCP) in Pryor, OK. TCP is a National Guard Youth ChalleNGe Program and is an agency of the Oklahoma Military Department.
