Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manages the day-to-day operation of the Quality Department, including supervising 2 hourly inspectors. Schedules vacation time, ensures overtime inspection coverage, and assists in resolving any personnel issues within the department. Supervises or performs receiving inspections, finished goods inspections, in process inspections, occasional first article inspections, and RGA (Returned Goods Authorization) inspections, to ensure timely flow of products. Must be able to fill in for inspectors during peak workload or brief inspector absences, performing inspections with common inspection tools such as tape measure, digital caliper, durometer gage, digital multimeter (DMM) and the like.
- Manages the day-to-day operation of the ISO9001 Quality Management System and takes on the role of Management Representative. This includes managing the document control system, ensuring internal audits are performed in a timely manner, preparing the company for registrar audits 2x per year, and following up on any auditor findings with formal or informal corrective action. The Quality Manager hosts the registrar auditor during ISO9001 audits, supplying all necessary objective evidence to verify Ericson’s conformity to the ISO9001 requirements, and manages the Corrective Action system.
- Manages the Instrument Calibration system, including keeping the calibration log updated, working with 3 party calibration service providers, keeping cal certs on file, calibrating certain inhouse made specialty equipment following our written cal procedures, and ensuring out of calibration equipment is quarantined.
- Manages the Material Review Board (MRB) process. This includes working with Manufacturing, Purchasing, Customer Service, and Engineering to disposition non-conforming materials. Manages dollars held in QC Hold inventory to prevent excessive accumulation. Expedites items through the system as needed to manage QC hold inventory and disposition materials in a timely manner.
- Hosts the UL, CSA, ETL, NSF and DCMA inspectors when they visit. Supplies them with documentation to verify conformity of product and interpret our regulatory file requirements to the company’s best advantage during these inspections.
- Creates inspection plans for new parts with assistance from Engineering.
- Performs occasional trend analysis on inspection results, customer complaints, and similar data to identify issues and propose formal or informal corrective action.
- Collaborates with our Product Development and Sustainment teams to assist in product quality planning. Works to achieve UL, CSA, and/or ETL agency certification of new products, or new certification of existing products. Familiarity with any or all of the following Safety Standards such as UL153, UL496, UL498, UL1088, UL943, UL1640, and various related CSA equivalent standards is highly desirable. Familiarity with the National Electrical Code NFPA70 is highly desirable.
Minimum Qualifications, Education and Certifications:
- Bachelors degree in engineering or related field required
- Minimum of 3 years work experience in quality assurance / quality control
- Experience in an electrical product industry desirable
- Prior responsibility for the supervision of personnel is highly recommended
