The opportunity:
We’re seeking a Special Education Professional Learning Specialist to play a critical role in scaling Scoot’s Special Education and Support Staff initiatives by designing and leading best-in-class training for our educators. We are looking for a seasoned teacher-educator who is excited about preparing hundreds of new educators to enter classrooms as paraprofessionals, behavior interventionists, substitute teachers, etc. and supporting them along their journey.

You’ll work on:
Professional Learning Design and Delivery
- Lead design and implementation of special education training for substitute teachers, paraprofessionals, behavior interventionists, and other roles that Scoot staffs for schools
- Facilitate high-quality, inclusive learning experiences for Scoot educators during their program training and professional development, including compelling learning activities to support the development of educator skills and mindsets
- Consistently revise session materials with learning activities and compelling course content that supports the development of effective educators
- Drive educator participants learning and mastery of content through opportunities for practice and application
- Measure and monitor program effectiveness in order to drive continual improvement
- Personalize training for specific clients with high volume requests
- Lead Foundations Training (seasonal) and ongoing professional development sessions for TeachStart and other general education training modules
- Design and facilitate training content for external audiences as needed
Special Education & Support Leadership
- Lead implementation of paraprofessional level 1 and level 2 microcredentials
- Remain up to date on California NPA training regulations and other state special education support regulations as necessary to design and deliver compliant training
- Obtain and maintain QBS Safety-Care trainer certification, lead Safety-Care training/retraining for Scoot educators
- Serve as Behavior Intervention Development (BID) lead, coaching BIIs in their school settings and delivering responsive ongoing professional development
- Manage relevant training vendors including educator completion (i.e. AB1172 California Positive Behavior Intervention Training, First Aid, CPR)
Experience:
- 5+ years as a PK-12 teacher, with at least 2 years of special education experience
- 3+ years of experience leading professional learning for educators/adult learners, ideally as a school leader, professor, or professional learning facilitator
Skills:
- Comfort and adaptability in using technology including virtual facilitation
- Demonstrated ability with teaching and coaching educators as they learn the foundations of special education, working with students with disabilities, and classroom culture
- Fluency with facilitating content related to culturally responsive pedagogical practices, creating inclusive classrooms, supporting diverse learners, and building relationships with students
- Demonstrated ability to build relationships with racially and linguistically diverse teammates and educators, both within and across lines of identity difference
- Strong emotional intelligence and great decision-making skills
- Entrepreneurial spirit and adaptability to support quickly growing programs
You’ll stand out if:
- Special education teaching certification
- Master’s degree in special education, learning design or a related field
- Experience teaching and leading in California public school districts
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $80,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
