At the AIDS Center of Queens County (ACQC), our mission is to prevent HIV and STIs and promote health and wellness in the communities we serve. This is accomplished by providing health education and intervention services using a harm reduction approach and evidence-based practices in a friendly, respectful, and culturally sensitive environment. The program goals for the PrEP and PEP program are to provide comprehensive and risk reduction counseling and streamline access to Biomedical HIV services.
ACQC is seeking a PrEP and PEP Specialist to work with individuals who are vulnerable to HIV infection in accessing biomedical HIV prevention services.
Responsibilities for the PrEP/PEP Health Education Specialist
- Assist with the day-to-day activities of the program.
- Conducts ongoing needs assessment including a review of characteristics, statistics, and data to help develop or design services that are specific, sensitive, and culturally relevant to the target populations.
- Conduct and coordinate outreach to target population in the venues, neighborhoods, or areas where potential participants may congregate.
- Provide individual health education and information on PrEP/PEP.
- PrEP/PEP referrals and linkage to medical services
- Conduct community presentations to increase awareness of the program and promote recruitment into program interventions/activities.
- Delivery of CTR – HIV/STIs/HCV Testing interventions.
- Follow up all referrals to assure clients compliance,
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date client/chart recordings for program activities and CTR interventions.
- Enter data for all program activities weekly.
- Submit weekly program and activity progress reporting.
- Willing to work long hours, evenings, and weekends.
- Other duties as assigned by Lead Navigator or the Director of Education and Prevention.
Qualifications Required for the PrEP/PEP Health Education Specialist
- Bachelor’s degree in social science or health related field and one-year experience, or three to four years work or field related experience.
- Knowledge of PrEP/PEP
- Knowledge of HIV/AIDS, STIs and affected communities.
- Fluency in one or more of targeted community languages and/or dialects.
- Must be culturally competent and able to work with individuals from non-traditional backgrounds in terms of gender identity and sexuality. Must be able to convey sensitivity in a non-judgmental manner.
The PrEP/PEP Health Education Specialist position is a full-time, non-exempt position, based in Woodside, Queens near the LIRR and #7 trains. The ideal candidate for the PrEP/PEP Health Education Specialist position must be hardworking and passionate about public health, education, and connecting individuals to care.
