The Green Bay Area Public School District is seeking applicants for a Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) Educational Interpreter. You could also be assigned to ride the school bus to support students. The wage is based on the number of years of experience.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (including, but not limited to):

* Follows the standard Paraprofessional and Special Education Paraprofessional Addendum essential functions.
The additional essential functions of the DHH Educational Interpreter include but are not limited to:
1. Assists students who have deaf and heard of hearing needs in academic and nonacademic activities, individually or in groups (e.g. regular classroom, library, computer lab, cafeteria, recess, sports, music, art, assemblies, special events, etc.) for the purpose of facilitating communication.
2. Interprets or translates classroom discourse necessary during instruction for the purpose of facilitating effective communication.
3. Maintains contact with the certified staff members (including direct service providers) for the purpose of reviewing student’s progress towards their objectives for their Individual Educational Program (IEP).
4. Monitors students for the purpose of providing assistance as needed and ensuring a safe and positive learning environment.
5. Participates in meetings (e.g. staff/faculty in-service, workshops, IEPs, parent/teacher meetings, etc.) for the purpose of
receiving and/or conveying information related to serving the general goals of education to the deaf or hard of hearing and the student’s goals.
6. Prepares for daily classroom lectures and activities (e.g., review text, audio visual materials, special vocabulary, etc.) for the purpose of providing clear understanding and interpretation.
7. Provides accommodation of curriculum and classroom materials for the purpose of meeting the needs of students who have deaf or hard of hearing needs, in accordance with the student’s IEP.
8. Provides support/tutoring to students with deaf or hard of hearing needs for the purpose of reinforcing classroom objectives and curriculum content, under the supervision of assigned classroom teacher.
9. Responds to inquiries (e.g. parents, teachers, staff, etc.) for the purpose of providing information or referring to appropriate personnel.
10.Performs all other duties as assigned by supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
- Education:
- *Have at least two years of post-secondary education that is equivalent to at least 48 semester hours from an accredited higher education institution, OR
*Have obtained an associate (or higher) degree, OR
*Have met a rigorous standard of quality and be able to demonstrate, through a formal state or local academic assessment, knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics (or, as appropriate, reading readiness, writing readiness, and mathematics readiness).
License:
*Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction Educational Interpreter License
QUALIFICATIONS DESIRED:
- Certification: Dual certification (for adult interpreting)
- Education: Associates Degree – Child Development or related field
- Experience: Prior experience working with children
