Guidance Specialist
SALARY: 36.96 per hour

TITLE: Guidance Specialist – Synergy
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Bachelor’s degree in guidance, social work, psychology or related field.
2. Five years’ work experience in a social services or education strongly preferred but not required.
3. Experience working in an alternative education setting preferred but not required.
4. Ability to work with parents, school staff, students, and state and community agencies
5. Strong collaboration, communication, and organizational skills.
6. Fluent in spoken and written Spanish, preferred but not required.
7. Flexibility and the ability to multitask, prioritize, problem solve, follow directions and take initiative.
8. Maintains a strong belief in the East Hartford Public School core values and Synergy Alternative High School’s values and practices including restorative justice.
9. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable.
REPORTS TO: Synergy School Counselor and Principal
JOB GOAL: The guidance specialist works in tandem with Synergy administration/guidance in the implementation of applied experiences for Synergy students including: college classes, internships, and manufacturing/other career pathway experiences. Additionally, the guidance specialist will help develop and monitor student roadmaps leading to successful graduation and craft student success plans for post-secondary work.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage/supervise student applied experiences in schools and at job or internship sites.
- Assist in the development and administration of student roadmaps to graduation; personalize individual student success plans to prepare students for success beyond high school.
- Serve as the liaison for students transferring between other schools and Synergy.
- Assisting in the development and administration of advisory curriculum.
- Motivate students to realize high attendance, academic, career readiness, and behavioral standards.
- Regularly meet with students to discuss their progress (attendance, academics, career readiness, behavior, and credits) and provide counseling as needed.
- Collaborate with students, teachers, support staff (including coaches), families, and other individuals to improve student outcomes.
- Collect, interpret, and analyze student data to drive program of studies.
- Assist in the supervision and implementation of credit recovery.
- Work with administrators and staff in compiling staff/student schedule requests.
- Build student confidence in career readiness including helping to develop positive self-concepts.
- Develop and implement student groups or transitional activities.
- Establish and expand community partnerships with work sites and families.
- Attend professional development, team planning and data analysis meetings.
- Report student data, perform record-keeping, and/or create presentations as directed by administrator or guidance.
- Perform other tasks and responsibilities as delegated and/or assigned by supervisors.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Per Policy 4140.2/4240.2 and Administrative Regulation 4140.2/4240.2.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Non-Certified Staff.
