Role: Director of Engineering
Reports to: CEO and President
Role Description
The role will include ensuring manufacturing readiness for delivering production units, supporting procurement selection of vendors, subcontractors, manufacturers and fabrication shops, as well as creating and managing a team for continuous improvement of all aspects of Onvector’s products. In the latter case, the Director of Engineering will continue to manage in-house disciplines for Onvector’s products evolving into a technical leadership role for continuous improvement and/or innovation; while subcontracting and manufacturing functions are delegated to other technical personnel.
The Director of Engineering leads, initially executes, then manages engineering and design, fabrication, installation, completion and commissioning of Onvector’s products. This includes management of vendors and consultants, construction of systems and components, and supporting development of new commercial products.
Depending on the employee’s work trajectory, this role could evolve into project execution after significant projects are won or remain as engineering lead. The Director of Engineering must become an in-house expert on the company’s products and a leader on efforts to improve, validate and deploy Onvector’s technology. Overall, this role is focused on ensuring commercial design, engineering and fabrication/manufacturing, completion and commissioning activities all drive Onvector’s competitiveness and impact.
This position requires graduate-level training and prior commercial engineering experience in addition to general knowledge of multiple domains of science including chemistry and physics, as well as mechanical and electrical engineering. Five years of managerial experience are desired, however initially the engineering team will be small. Direct expertise in water treatment and/or plasma is desirable but not required.
Essential Functions
- Manage engineering department budget and plans; drive for cost optimization
- Manage and mentor engineering staff; assist in hiring
- Oversee and assist engineers
- Mentor engineering team in product design and development
- Work with team members and evolving departments effectively
- Ensure that the engineering team maintains compliance with appropriate regulatory requirements, such as OSHA, state DEPand/or GLP guidelines
- Lead sustaining engineering initiatives and improvement
- Liaise with sales and marketing to identify and develop improvements, innovation strategies and new products
- Initially coordinate and manage consulting engineers, consultants, collaborators supporting engineering activities andvendors
- Initially lead production (contract manufacturing), however subcontracting and manufacturing functions may besubsequently delegated to other personnel
- Coordinate and manage consulting engineers, consultants, and collaborators supporting engineering activities
- Accountable for engineering activities, including expenditures and commercial deployment schedules
- Responsible for engineering program milestones and schedule, project costs, and quality of work products
- Contribute to the design of field operational protocols
- Write, revise and/or oversee the preparation of technical reports, specifications, drawings
- Otherwise support members of the team in primary product and applied engineering development activities
- Act as engineering liaison with regulatory bodies, quality assurance groups and customers
- Minimum Qualifications
- Doctorate or Master's degree in relevant technical field and a minimum of five years of experience in multi-disciplinary engineering-related field
- Background in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or Material Science preferred
- Proficient with Microsoft Office programs; MS word, Excel, PowerPoint
- Ability to manage complex projects and multi-task
- Strong communication skills and IT fluency
- Ability to remain professional and courteous at all time
- Must be available to work occasional nights, holidays and weekends
