Participates in the preparation of Valley Metro’s payroll for all employees; assists in computing and processing payroll adjustments; Maintains confidentiality of personnel and payroll records and reports.
Reviews and verifies data coming to the payroll system from various sources; summarizes and balances payroll biweekly; and completes employee pay verifications.
Reviews time entry, conducts edit of time entry to ensure accuracy, completeness, proper authorization, processes payroll and reviews validation and controls reports.
Executes the payroll, validates paychecks, and ensures that all payroll deadlines are met in accordance with the pay period schedule.
Generates reports and assists with data preparation needed in order to prepare periodic payroll tax filings and year-end W-2 filings.
Ensures the integrity and accuracy of all financial data produced in payroll; prepares and maintains a variety of statistical data and records; audits, balances, and prepares a variety of payroll related reports, including quarterly and annual state and federal reports.
Reviews and analyzes payroll reports for issues and determining and completing adjustments to resolve issues; reconciles and transmits files and payments for taxes, deferred compensation, retirement plans, and garnishments; performance fiscal and calendar year-end processes.
Responds to and resolves complex and sensitive customer inquiries regarding payroll policies and procedures both verbally and in writing.
Prepares and reconciles Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS) monthly reports, including researching and adjusting discrepancies.
Participates in evaluating, testing, and implementing payroll system upgrades.
Calculates and resolves the final payment to separating employees; explains the process to employees and department staff as needed.
Provides training to employees and managers on payroll and timekeeping processes; presents at new hire orientation (NEO).
Sets up, compiles, verifies, and processes payroll related data in ADP systems including, termination pay, retro pay, deductions, entering withholding data, direct deposit requests, and employee information into the payroll system.
Works closely with Human Resources Division staff to coordinate on boarding of new hires, pay rates, benefits, and leave accruals and other personnel transactions.
Assists in developing and recommending system and process improvement changes; implements approved changes.
Maintains a variety of automated and manual logs, records, and files in accordance with the law; provides various documents as custodian of the records when requested.
Performs other duties of similar nature and level as assigned.
