Position Purpose
Extruder Operators are responsible for the set up and operation of machines that shape thermoplastic materials.
Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Performs setup procedures to specify weights of bobbins.
- Synchronizes speed of extrusion.
- Fixes damaged packs.
- Reels extruded products into bobbins.
- Locates defects and notifies supervisor of defects or machine malfunctions.
- Checks extruded product to ensure it meets specifications.
- Strings lines.
- Cleans tools by removing access, entangled, or completed filaments from machines.
- Cleans machines.
- Responsible for general cleanliness of work area, including sweeping or picking up debris.
- Stays informed of applicable OSHA and company guidelines and operating procedures, and proactively identifies unsafe working, building, and other environmental conditions to management.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
This position works in the Fibers manufacturing plant. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the dutis of this job, the employee must have the ability to receive detailed information through oral communication and have close visual acuity. This position is required to stand for an extended period of time (12 hours), look at a machine for an extended period of time, use hands and fingers to handle, feel, or operate the machinery, yard, tools or controls, and reach with hands and arms. This position is regularly required to lift 25-35 pounds and carry that weight approximately 30-45 feet.
This position may have addition physical requirements to include but are not limited to climbing, pushing/pulling, bending, stooping, and crouching. This position will work in a non-climate-controlled environment, will be exposed to moving equipment or loud machinery, dust, and/or allergens, etc. This position will be required to wear the following protective clothing, gear, equipment and devices which include but are not limited to: hearing protection, safety glasses, and cut resistant gloves.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full time, non-exempt position. Plant hours are Sunday through Saturday, 24 hours per day. This position will work 12 hour, rotating shifts.
Qualifications / Skills
Education and Experience:
- No experience needed.
- Prior to operating a powered industrial truck (i.e pallet jack or forklift) in the workplace, Hellas will evaluate your performance and determine if you are competent to operate a powered industrial truck safely. Each operator’s performance will be evaluated every year.
Skills:
- Ability to use scissors and doff gun. Fine motor manipulation required. Must be able to operate an extruder machines after on the job training.
- Ability to handle a pallet jack.
- Ability to perform basic math calculations such as addition and subtraction.
- Ability to keep simple records and make reports.
- Ability to multitask
- Good interpersonal and problem-solving skills. Understands when matters need to be escalated.
- Ability to work effectively, both independently and park of a team. Come with a good attitude, strong work ethic, and met attendance expectations.
- Attentive to safety concerns. Serve as a role model in following safe operating procedures.

Pay: $17.00 - $22.00 per hour
Expected hours: 36 – 48 per week
