Golda Och Academy is currently seeking a full-time dynamic and talented Learning Specialist (grades 6-9) to join our Student Services team for the 2024-2025 school year.
Responsibilities include:
- Provide direct instructional support to individual students in small group settings both in and outside of the classroom
- Support students with reading, writing, and math (Judaic studies and Hebrew a plus)
- Provide support with organization and executive functioning, study habits, note-taking, and other learning skills
- Provide push-in support in classes when needed. Lesson planning with the teacher prior to class.
- Acting as the primary case manager to a group of students with learning differences
- Regularly meet with students and monitor progress
- Collaborate with classroom teachers on content and practice, supporting best practices toward the implementation of students’ Learning Plans
- Point person in actively communicating progress to students, parents, teachers and other stakeholders including tutors and therapists
- Participate in teacher team meetings and grade level and/or departmental meetings.
- Writing of individual student Learning Plans
- Create teacher-friendly Learning Plans highlighting student’s profile, academic strengths and challenges, and recommendations for classroom-based strategies
- Interpret and incorporate data from educational evaluation reports into Learning Plans
- Attend Annual and Triennial IEP meetings with the county Child Study Team
Requirements
- Passion and experience in working with students with additional learning needs particularly of 6th - 9th grade age group.
- Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field required
- Master’s degree in Education, Special Education or LDTC
- 3+ years working with middle and/or high school students required
- Resource room experience
- Willingness and ability to learn content of classroom teachers in all subjects
- Experience with and knowledge of CST meetings, development of IEPs, 504 and I&RS processes and procedures preferred
- Strong organizational and communication skills in managing multiple projects
- Strong affinity for the mission of Golda Och Academy and an educational philosophy consistent with the school’s core values

Our school is divided into two campuses - one for the Lower School (grades Pre-K - 5) and one for the Upper School (grades 6 -12) - located about two miles apart in West Orange. The school serves approximately 500 students from more than 60 communities across New Jersey. As a Jewish Day School, we dismiss at 2:00 on Fridays with respect to the observance of Shabbat and are closed for most major Jewish Holidays.
