We are hiring an ophthalmic scribe, which is a full-time, benefits-eligible position in our Harrisburg, PA, office. The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational, time management, and communication skills.
This is an exciting opportunity for the successful candidate to grow in an evolving profession. Previous experience is helpful but not necessary. You will be provided with training and tools needed to learn about an industry that delivers our patients a state-of-the-art experience and overall visual wellness. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Acquaint all new patients with the office procedures to which they will be exposed. Inform patients of the purpose of all tests personally performed and how they will be affected during the tests.
- Assist patients throughout their visits. Help those with walkers and wheelchairs.
- Making sure the patient chart is complete, including diagnoses, doctors’ orders, return visits, refills/new medications sent to pharmacy, printing information brochures, explaining all instructions to patients on medications and coding route slip.
- Assist doctor with minor procedures, ability to set up surgical tray, get informed consent signed and get approval if needed from insurance by checking with front desk. Complete minor procedure notes in computer.
- Ability to perform ancillary testing such as, Fundus photos, OCT, Topography, IOL master and Spec microscope.
- Complete Ophthalmic Scribe Course and understand medical terminology and able to spell terms correctly.
- Open and close rooms
- Help assist patients with the ordering of MRI’s/CTs/Bloodwork by providing orders and making sure they are given to the proper person to schedule, as needed.
- Writing for doctors as well as ordering tests and follow-up appointments
- Assist with surgical procedures done in office, including room set-up and cleaning.
- Print out RX for glasses and medications.
- Prepare biopsies for the lab and call for pick-up.
- Determine which patients should be taken next from the waiting room to have treatment initiated.
- Escort patients from the waiting room to the treatment room.
- Following work-up, advise patients of who will see them next, and make patients comfortable during their wait.
- Maintain a smooth flow of patients to the physician.
- Communicate with other ophthalmic technicians to facilitate proper patient flow.
- Sterilize instruments per office protocol.
- Perform other duties as requested from time to time.
- Clean, stock and maintain exam rooms that are assigned to you.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $16.00 - $20.00 per hour
Expected hours: No more than 40 per week
