This Research Assistant position will assist postdoc researchers and graduate/undergraduate students in conducting lab experiments on the Drosophila immune response. Duties include day-to-day operation of the laboratory including ordering materials, stocking, and looking after equipment. Lab techniques will include handling microbes (bacteria, viruses, nematode parasites), DNA and RNA isolation, PCR and quantitative PCR, gel electrophoresis, gene cloning experiments, and protein analysis. Other activities will involve data collection and recording, data analysis, maintenance of a professional laboratory notebook, supervision of undergraduate/graduate students and high school trainees in the lab.
Duties:
- Conducting lab experiments with Drosophila and microbes, assisting postdocs and graduate students with molecular biology techniques.
- General laboratory maintenance including ordering, stocking, and checking lab equipment/facilities.
- Collecting and recording data, analyzing data, maintaining a laboratory notebook.
Performs other work-related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
