Director of Christian Development
Classification: Full-Time
Location: Trinity Lutheran Church, 508 Center Street, Ashland, OH 44805
Compensation: Salary commensurate with experience
Reports To: Senior Pastor
SUMMARY JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Director of Christian Development will oversee Christian Education and development for children and youth, grades Pre K - Young Adult. They will develop and implement a comprehensive curriculum and Christian Development program and collaborate with the Director of Women’s and Children’s ministries to deliver classes and programs. They will build connecting relationships with children, teens, young adults, and families to understand and meet their needs. They will recruit and train a committed team of volunteers to teach classes and assist with programming including but not limited to Sunday School, Catechism, retreats, small groups, outreach projects, mission trips, and social gatherings.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop Christian relationships with children, teens, young adults, and families.
- Prepare and deliver lessons, foster discussion and build community within the classroom.
- Mentor youth.
- Connect students to other adults in the congregation, promoting mentorships.
- Organize and lead Youth Committee meetings.
- Recruit, train, and support volunteers.
- Supervise, plan, and collaborate with the Youth Coordinator.
- Coordinate appreciation activities for volunteers and parent helpers.
CHILDREN’S SUNDAY SCHOOL:
- Evaluate, choose, and implement age-appropriate curriculum aligned with Lutheran theology for Sunday School classes PreK-6th grade.
- Recruit, disciple, train, and supervise volunteer teachers and helpers in classrooms.
MIDDLE SCHOOL CATECHISM:
- Evaluate, revise, and develop curriculum aligned with the great ecumenical creeds and the Lutheran confessional writings (especially Luther's Small Catechism.)
- Plan Catechism multi-year calendar.
- Teach Catechism classes in collaboration with the senior pastor.
- Organize and lead Catechism retreats and review sessions.
HIGH SCHOOL SUNDAY SCHOOL:
- Plan curriculum and cast a vision for multi-year curricula.
- Implement a one-year Sunday School schedule.
YOUNG ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL:
- Coordinate volunteers to provide classes, small groups, and social events for young adults, 18 and older.
SOCIAL EVENTS:
- Plan/coordinate a one-year schedule of monthly events.
- Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers to help with events.
MISSION TRIPS:
- Plan local and international mission trips, coordinating with mission organizations.
- Recruit and train volunteer chaperones.
- Cast vision for evangelism and discipleship.
- Organize and lead team meetings.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A relational faith in Jesus Christ and solid biblical foundation.
- A love for Christ's Church.
- A commitment to teach the Scriptures, the great ecumenical creeds, and the Lutheran confessional writings (especially Luther's Small Catechism.)
- A heart for students who treats others with dignity, respect, compassion, and professionalism.
- Leadership skills (administration, communication, organization, etc.)
- A self-starter who initiates ministry and builds Christian community within the entire congregation.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- College degree
- 3-5 years’ experience working with youth and volunteers
- Basic computer and technology skills.
- Knowledge of effective curriculum design
- Demonstrated event planning experience
