Job Summary
The Patient Collector is primarily responsible to contact patients who have outstanding balances. The patient collector will also have other duties in an effort to assist the billing and collections team.
Summary of Essential Job Functions
- Responsible for collections of all outstanding patient payments.
- Makes calls to carriers and patients regarding the status of claims and payment if necessary.
- Ensures all receivables are collected promptly and applied to customer accounts accurately.
- Posts all insurance and patient payments, denials, and adjustments to patient accounts.
- Reviews status of delinquent accounts and follow company protocol accordingly.
- Utilize insurance company portals to verify necessary financial information.
- Works with Billing Department to send out medical records and patient statements.
- Prepares and sends Medical Records to insurance if needed.
- Ensures the accuracy of documents submitted.
- Assist the account representative
Required Education and Experience
- At least one year in some form of collections experience, insurance is preferred
- At least one year of experience in payment posting
- Comprehensive knowledge of insurance coverage
Skills and Competencies
- Must possess the ability to communicate with people at all levels of the organization, patients, and external agencies.
- Must be very savvy with Microsoft and learning new software
- Must be open, agreeable, and professional when gathering and referring information to the appropriate member of the team.
- Must have the ability to work within tight deadlines and prioritize conflicting demands whilst working effectively.
- Must have the ability to work alone but also in a team, with fellow staff, in the business setting.
- Must possess good time management skills.
- Must actively seek to accomplish tasks and be able to use a variety of methods and ideas to solve problems whilst, when needed, seeking advice and/or guidance from fellow employees.
