Job Title: Senior Technical Buyer/Planner
Job Summary:
Voltserver is seeking an experienced Technical Buyer/Planner to join our team. This position plays a crucial role in the supply team by managing the procurement of technical components, and materials required for the company's operations with a focus on new product introduction and production supply. By collaborating with suppliers, internal teams, and maintaining a strategic approach to procurement, this role contributes to the overall efficiency and success of the organization's product cost reduction efforts and supply chain processes .
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering and production, to understand technical requirements and ensure accurate procurement planning
- Analyze technical drawings, specifications, and Bill of Materials (BOM) to identify required components and materials
- Develop procurement strategies to reduce costs, accommodate lead times and market trends while meeting development and production schedules
- Identify and evaluate potential suppliers of technical components and materials
- Negotiate pricing, terms, and contracts with suppliers to ensure favorable terms and conditions
- Collaborate with product development to lead DFX efforts and product cost objectives
- Maintain strong relationships with suppliers to ensure on-time delivery and quality consistency
- Create and manage purchase orders for technical components and materials
- Monitor purchase orders to track delivery status, lead times, and potential delays
- Address any discrepancies or issues related to orders, shipments, and invoices
- Analyze demand forecasts and historical usage data to determine optimal inventory levels
- Implement inventory control strategies to minimize excess stock while preventing shortages
- Coordinate with production and warehouse teams to manage inventory efficiently
- Collaborate with quality assurance teams to ensure that technical components and materials meet required quality standards
- Identify potential supply chain risks and develop contingency plans to mitigate disruptions
- Stay updated on market trends, geopolitical factors, and industry developments that could impact the supply of technical goods
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date procurement records, including pricing, lead times, and supplier performance
- Generate regular reports on procurement metrics, cost savings, and supplier performance for management review
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Business, or a related field
- Proven experience in procurement, supply chain, or related roles with a technical or engineering focus
- Working knowledge of relevant part fabrication and assembly process including metals, plastics, printed circuit boards, electrical/mechanical assembly
- CPM or CPIM certification preferred
- Proven cross functional collaboration leadership experience particularly with NPI to lead DFX and cost reduction efforts
- Strong technical aptitude to understand complex technical specifications and drawings
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Proficiency in using procurement and inventory management software; working knowledge of NetSuite MRP and Planning Workbench functionality a plus
- Analytical mindset with the ability to use data to make informed decisions
- Current on commodity market pricing and availability for various metals, plastics, discrete electronics and ICs
- Attention to detail and strong organizational skills
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
- Familiarity with industry regulations, compliance, and quality standards
