The General Manager provides leadership and oversight to an energetic team of fitness professionals in the heart of Baltimore who collectively serve a fast-paced, diverse clientele in the medical and university setting.
Job Summary:
Oversees all operations of the site and ensures the quality of the program and satisfaction of the client. Manages, organizes and evaluates the administration of the site and all of its programs. Responsible for participating in all daily fitness center operations in order to ensure optimal performance of the Fitness Center. This position requires an individual with strong leadership skills and excellent communication skills. Interacts with members and staff to deliver a safe and welcoming environment for all. Responsible and accountable for leading a team of employees in a positive, motivating manner with continuous assistance in employee training and development. Provides safe, motivating, and effective individual and group exercise instruction with excellent customer service skills, strong communication skills, and the ability to motivate others in person and virtually. Provides excellent leadership, up-to-date quality training, and high energy motivation to members and participants in order to maximize participation, outcomes, and customer satisfaction. Responsible for communicating and upholding company standards. The specific oversight and experience criteria defined for this position includes:
Oversight of a 26,000+ sq ft facility and a 2000 sq ft facility
Direct supervision of 7+ full time team members and 3 part-time team members.
CONTRACT / CLIENT CARE:
Responsible for the successful execution of service deliverables/statement of work Ensure all contract requirements are met
Develop, track, and maintain assigned budgets
Compile reports and analyze data to ensure client expectations are exceeded Actively promote Elevation’s value-added services and work to increase contract values
Communicate proactively, responding promptly to client requests and inquiries
Demonstrate flexibility with changes in client needs and adapt accordingly
Meet and support objectives, goals and initiatives of the program as prioritized by the client
Participate in meetings and maintain active relationship with the client
TEAM LEADERSHIP / MANAGEMENT:
Lead by example and set positive examples of behavior and clear expectations for performance
Assist in defining professional growth opportunities, available tools and resources for team members
Provide performance feedback to team members on an ongoing basis and independently of annual performance review and goal progression meetings
Delegate work to ensure workload balance and empower team members to succeed
Create and maintain a supportive, friendly, team environment where respect is demonstrated, contributions are recognized and process improvement is encouraged
Demonstrate proactive and open communication to keep supervisor and team members informed of important program and client developments
Responsible for recruiting, hiring, training, supervising, scheduling and evaluating all team members
Responsible for approving payroll for all team including supplemental earnings
Responsible for organizing and leading team meetings and sending regular communications to team
Responsible for team scheduling and coverage (includes 24/7 and all open hours)
CUSTOMER SERVICE:
Anticipate member needs and provide proactive service during peak and non-peak times
Engage with members on a one-on-one basis, providing education, support and ensuring their safety
Provide prompt response to medical emergencies and complete required documentation with proficiency
Ensure proper and accurate membership processing procedures are followed
Listen, cooperate, and be respectful towards all team members, members, and client(s)
Positively contribute to a welcoming, friendly and team environment where respect is demonstrated, contributions are recognized, and process improvement is encouraged
Be readily available to answer questions, assist members and support fellow team members
PROGRAMMING / FITNESS SERVICES:
Lead the creation, implementation and execution of annual program calendar/ strategic plan
Seek out integration opportunities with wellness partners and business groups within client organization (if appropriate and aligned with contract goals)
Instruct safe and effective group exercise classes and ensure class quantity is met based on contract requirements (onsite/virtual)
Teach monthly center required amount of Elevation Live & Station virtual group fitness classes
Personal training
OTHER:
Uphold company risk management practices including creation and maintenance of operations manual, monthly facility walk-throughs, annual inspections, facility-related documentation, etc.
Adhere to standards for equipment cleaning, preventive maintenance and repair
Meet and support objectives, goals and initiatives of the specific Elevation team
Contribute new ideas, seek internal and external resources to support the goals of the teams
Adheres to timelines, produces quality work, show initiative by taking on team responsibilities
Review company communications and complete action items by established due dates
Attend and actively participate in team meetings
Seek out internal/external resources and explore opportunities for professional growth
Compliance with Centers of Excellence

Skills, Qualifications, and Requirements:
Education: Bachelors in Exercise Science or other related field
CPR/AED certification required
Personal training certification (NSCA, ACSM, NASM or ACE) required
5+ years experience in fitness/wellness management
Group exercise experience and certification preferred
Nutrition coaching certification preferred
Excellent verbal/written communication, customer service, and presentation skills
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Excellent computer skills including Microsoft and Google Suite
Maintain all required certifications throughout duration of employment
