To advance the College’s BELIEVE: The Campaign for Florida Southern College,” the Director of Development will serve as the major gifts officer and manage a portfolio of potential and current donors who are capable of making gifts of $25,000 or more to the Barney Barnett School of Business and Free Enterprise.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Execute and participate in the development of sophisticated fundraising plans to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward alumni, parents, friends, and corporate partners to support the Barnett Business School.
- Meet personally with 16-20 individuals and/or organizations per month and actively manage a portfolio of major gift and leadership annual fund prospects for the Barnett Business School.
- Travel throughout Polk County, the state of Florida, and other areas nationally to cultivate and solicit major gifts, planned gifts, and leadership annual fund gifts.
- Prepare well-written correspondence, visit briefings, strategy documents, solicitation proposals, with colleagues in Advancement and the President’s Office.
- Develop high awareness and deep knowledge of Florida Southern College and the Barnett School in order to serve as a credible representative and advocate including plans for assigned regions and possibly for specific industries.
- Work with the VP of Advancement to plan, coordinate and participate in fundraising calls for the Dean of the Barnett School, including calls to alumni, business leaders, foundations, and corporations to solicit annual support and sponsorships for the activities of the Barnett School.
- Identify and cultivate major gift prospects for capital, scholarship, and endowment gifts to the Barnett School.
- Contributes to the success of the department by performing all other duties as needed to drive the vision, fulfill the mission, and abide by the values of the College.
EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE AND REQUIREMENTS
- A minimum of six years proven experience in development/donor solicitation or direct fund-raising, preferably in higher education that demonstrates the ability to successfully establish long-term relationships with high-end constituents
- Masters degree preferred; a bachelor's degree in Communications, Business, PR/Marketing or related area required.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies.
- A knowledge of higher education development and advancement concepts, methods, and procedures; impeccable written and oral communication skills; a professional demeanor; a positive attitude; and the ability to keep confidences
- Maintain knowledge of planned giving opportunities.
