The Department of Theatre Arts at Howard University (www.finearts.howard.edu) is seeking dynamic, skilled, engaged, and collaboration-minded candidates for the position of Lecturer of Theatre Arts Administration in the nationally renowned Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) Theatre Arts Administration program.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate success in teaching and guiding theatre students, proficiency in the arts and crafts of THEATRE ARTS, relevant professional work in the field, scholarly contributions to the discipline, and a commitment to Howard University’s mission to create theatre leaders capable of driving change and solving problems for humanity through the scholarship and artistic practice of theatre arts administration. The ideal candidate will also have a passion for remaining current in the field regarding evolving styles, techniques, technologies, trends, scholarship and andragogy of theatre arts administration.
This is a full-time, non-tenure-track appointment beginning academic year (AY) 2024-25. The candidate will work with the faculty of the Theatre Arts Administration program, and faculty in the other five departmental concentrations, to continue to build on the Program's many strengths for the training of aesthetic cultural activists in the broad fields of Theatre Arts.
Duties primarily include:
Administrative duties – This position may include duties associated with coordinating the area of concentration within the Department, i.e. curriculum development, course scheduling, faculty recruitment, student recruitment, area budget management, etc.
Instructional duties – This position includes duties associated with the instruction of undergraduate students in theatrical design and stage management. The expected credit hour range is 15 – 18 credit hours per academic year. In addition to teaching, duties also include the curation of educational supplemental activities i.e. masterclasses, symposia, etc.
Departmental, College and University Service duties – This position includes duties associated with the governance of the Department, College and University i.e. service on committees related to curriculum review and development, program assessment, grievances, appointments, etc.
Production duties – This position includes duties associated with the productions of the Department of Theatre Arts relative to the theatrical design of shows. Designing productions of plays and musicals, mentoring of student leaders in the areas of theatrical design, recommending production staff, etc. Are some of the duties included therein.
Preferred Qualifications:
MFA in Theatre Design, Technology and/or Stage Management - or in some related discipline completed by date of employment AND/OR commensurate commendations in the field of Theatre Design, Technology and/or Stage Management or commensurate commendations in related industries.
At least 3 - 6 years teaching experience at the undergraduate and/or graduate level
Administrative leadership at the university/college level preferred

Notes About the Candidate Review Process: Applications will be accepted through May 1, 2024. Pay: $60,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
