POSITION SUMMARY
The Director of Finance and Operations (DFO) will oversee and implement the infrastructure and systems needed to support strategic objectives for SGM’s finance and operations departments. In doing so, the DFO will be responsible for leadership related to operations and financial systems including finance, accounting, information technology, and physical properties and infrastructure. The DFO will work closely with the Executive Director (ED) and the management team in developing SGM’s strategic plan and annual budget. The Director of Finance and Operations will act as a liaison to the board of directors' finance committee, working closely with the committee to strengthen SGM’s financial position and other items as required. The DFA will continually evaluate best industry practices in comparison to internal systems and needed resources, with an eye toward both future needs and budget realities.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / FUNCTIONS**
Finance
The Director of Finance and Operations will have overall financial management responsibility including the review and approval of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting materials and metrics for the ED and board of directors. And will oversee budgeting, financial forecasting, cash flow and coordination of audit activities as well as accounts payable and receivable. The DFO will reconcile financial activities and have the professional competency to capture key data and processes to demonstrate the relationship between SGM’s goals and resulting fundraising needs.
Operations
The Director of Finance and Operations will work closely with the ED on the organization's operational processes and infrastructure, with a goal of being conscientious in developing and improving systems. The DFO will evaluate and improve SGM’s information technology, implementing new technologies to support key capabilities as required for future growth, and to support and drive key finance and operational resource initiatives. The DFO will have oversight of the physical properties owned by SGM. As well as, work with the ED and the rest of the management team to ensure that the focus remain on the organization’s mission while maintaining the culture that makes SGM unique.
EDUCATION, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
The Director of Finance and Operations will have at least 7 years of experience, with at least 5 years managing the finances and operations of a $3 million to $10 million organization or business unit. The successful candidate will have experience leading planning efforts and running operationally effective organizations that have multiple functional areas/programs. Experience and working knowledge of the nonprofit sector and operating in a fast-growing environment is a plus.
Specific requirements include:
Demonstrated experience in financial management and accounting
Experience with audit, legal compliance, and budget development
Organization development, grants management experience
General management skills
Proven effectiveness managing others, empowering them to make decisions
Must be technologically savvy, with experience overseeing information technology staff/consultants or vendors
Experience effectively communicating key data, including presentations to senior management, the Board or other outside partners/influencers/clients
Ability to see beyond the numbers; identifying trends and new possibilities
Bachelor's degree required, advanced degree and/or CPA preferred

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS
Physical demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to walk and/or sit; use hands to fingers or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms; balance; stoop; talk or hear. The employee must be able to bend, stoop, pull, push, lift, as well as have overhead extension of arms. Must be able to stand for long periods of time; be able to lift, carry or move at least 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
Work environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee will work in a public building and/or outdoors and thus will be exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
