ABOUT GLENDALE POLICE DEPARTMENT
Located on the western edge of the Phoenix metropolitan area, Glendale is a culturally diverse community with approximately 250,000 residents. Glendale is also an exciting sports, shopping, and entertainment destination, famous for its well-preserved charm.
The Glendale Police Department employs 444 sworn officers and 161 civilian employees. The Department is organized into three functional bureaus: the Operations Bureau, the Investigative and Administrative Services Bureau, and the Support Services Bureau. Under these bureaus are six divisions: Administrative Services, Special Operations, Criminal Investigations, Support Services, Gateway Patrol and Foothills Patrol.

Provides security for City facilities, enforces rules and regulations and answers questions and provides information to the public.
Duties may vary depending on assignment:

Requires driving to City buildings, parking areas and grounds in designated areas to observe unusual behavior and to prevent vandalism.

Observes CCTV's and Access Control Monitors from a Security Monitoring Center

Enforces established rules and regulations and answers questions and provides information to the public.

Observes activities at assigned locations and notifies the Police Department of any emergencies or suspicious activity.

Performs customer service assistance such as locating and/or directing people at City facilities.

Investigates and resolves customer security related complaints.

Analyzes customer service needs and provides reports to supervisor for evaluation.

Operates portable radio and/or phone to maintain contact with Public Safety.

Records and reports deficiencies related to the facilities assigned, such as safety hazards and security lighting.

Receives and investigates security related complaints.
-
Analyzes and reacts to emergency situations.
-
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Two years of experience as a security officer, police officer, or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying.
Knowledge of:
Industrial security practices
Electronic security alarms and systems
Skill in:
Analyzing and reacting to emergency situations
Ability to:
Handle encounters with irate or hostile individuals
Identify hazardous or unsafe conditions or behaviors
Develop and maintain effective working relationships with City staff and the public
Effectively communicate orally and in writing
Special Requirements
Valid Arizona driver's license.
May be required to work evenings, weekends and holidays.
Applicants will be required to undergo drug testing prior to employment and will be subject to further drug and alcohol testing throughout their period of employment in accordance with the City of Glendale Substance Abuse policy.
