Position: Upper School Academic Support/Reading Specialist
Powhatan School seeks a dedicated and skilled Upper School Learning Specialist to join our team. This full-time position involves providing in-class support, teaching several sections of resource classes, and working closely with staff and parents.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide in-class support to students to enhance their learning experience and academic performance.
- Teach several sections of resource classes tailored to meet the needs of students requiring additional academic assistance.
- Communicate effectively with staff and parents to support student progress and address concerns.
- Conduct regular assessments to monitor student progress and identify areas for improvement.
- Collect and analyze data to inform instruction and support individual student growth.
- Collaborate with teachers to develop and implement effective strategies for diverse learners.
- Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes student engagement and success.
Qualifications:
- A degree in special education and/or a reading specialist certification is preferred.
- 3-5 years of experience in a similar academic support role.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with staff, students, and parents.
- Proficiency in assessment, data collection, and analysis to drive instructional decisions.
- A commitment to fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment.
