Job description
We are looking for a skilled and detail-orientated Payroll Accountant to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of payroll processes, experience with accounting principles, and the ability to work accurately and efficiently.
Responsibilities of the position include:
- Analyze, prepare, and input payroll data for all office payrolls.
- Balance and verify all weekly field payrolls.
- Deposit Federal & FICA Tax withholding weekly.
- Prepare and file State Withholding Taxes and all quarterly taxes including the Employer Federal Tax (Form 941) and State/Federal Unemployment Taxes.
- File & reconcile yearly W-2’s and W-3’s to each state and the Social Security Office.
- State registrations and annual report filings for all units.
- Understand and input Union rate changes as well as setting up Union reciprocity rules in Penta.
- Maintain Federal job sick leave accrual setup in Penta.
- File annual Federal Unemployment Form.
- Prepare weekly, monthly, quarterly and year-end reports (gross payroll, hours worked, vacation accrual, tax deductions, benefit deductions, etc.) for management.
- Responsible for payroll end of month/quarter processing.
- Process Benefits and 401k payroll deductions.
- Maintain the Vacation Reconciliation.
- Maintain employee payroll files.
- Maintain current knowledge of applicable state and federal wage and hour laws.
- Attend and participate in all required company training.
- Conform to all company policies and procedures.
- Other duties as assigned.
The ideal candidate will have the following:
- Three or more years of payroll experience in California. Experience with prevailing wage and certified payroll. BA in Accounting preferred but not required.
- Knowledge of California state prevailing wage laws and DIR.
- Experience with Penta preferred but not required.
- Union Payroll experience preferred but not required.
- Attention to detail, time management, communication (verbal, written, listening), customer service and teamwork.
- Honesty, loyalty, and integrity in dealing with confidential information.
- High degree of proficiency in Microsoft Office programs.
- Ability to multi-task and work independently with a high degree of confidentiality.
- Knowledge of federal and state garnishment regulations and processing is a plus.
- Self-motivation with the ability to work independently.
