Durango Montessori School Lead Teacher
Position Summary: We are seeking hard-working and compassionate full-time elementary teachers to foster Durango Montessori’s continued growth. Applicants with experience and/or interest in Montessori Philosophy and Methods, experiential learning, and teaching experience will be given priority.
Elementary Leads:
Delight in all aspects of program design and development and skillfully delivers Montessori Elementary Curriculum–if the candidate is not Montessori credentialed, study, training, and practice will be required and delivered through on-campus training and professional development.
Are a highly relational and effective communicator with students, staff, and parents.
Collaborate with assigned Assistant Teachers who are highly valued as a part of the team.
Works with other members of the staff to ensure continuity of curriculum and communication.
Supervise his/her Assistant Teacher to ensure he/she is contributing to the peaceful, prepared environment, which is conducive to high-level, developmentally appropriate learning that supports the executive function skills of each child.
Love teaching children and supporting their development.
Engage children in peaceful, effective positive behavior support.
Have a commitment to high quality learning and regularly completes student observations and record keeping for each child.
Reads and abides by the policies and procedures of Durango Montessori School.
Assists in duties beyond the classroom as requested by the Director–attends informational sessions, open houses, conducts conferences, monitors recess and any morning or afternoon duty assigned.

Description:
Our school is in its 18th year. We are a small and thriving school that currently has one classroom in each level; Early Childhood, Lower El (1-2nd) And Upper El (3rd-5th). Interest in the school is great, our classrooms expect full enrollment in the fall with a total of 55 students.
DMS students engage the local community and have access to Colvig Summer Camp, Fort Lewis College, Mesa Verde, Crow Canyon Archeology Center, and many local non-profits with focuses on conservation, sciences, archaeology, and the arts.
The families that make up Durango Montessori are passionate about living their best lives and supporting their children to do so as well. Our parents are involved, supportive and looking forward to finding new elementary teachers that have big aspirations and the energy to make things happen for our students.
As a school we highly place the emotional health and wellbeing of our students using the mind+heart social emotional curriculum, and we believe a connection to the outdoors is vital to total health and wellness. This fall, we will spend Fridays at a nationally recognized camp to connect with the world outside of our classroom walls and engage in hiking, swimming, challenge courses, and archery. The school has a reputation for excellent academics as well as a philosophy of peace education which gives each child the opportunity to develop into a community leader and confident life-long learner.
Qualifications:
Minimum: Bachelors from an accredited college or university in Elementary Education or related discipline applicable to teaching assignment with a valid teaching certificate,
American Montessori Society or Association Montessori International credential; be enrolled in a Montessori program; or be willing to enroll in a Montessori program and/or participate in on-site training.
