Veterinarian:
Canines, Cats & Critters USVI Veterinary Hospital is looking for a Veterinarian to join our team. We are a busy practice offering full-service medical care, preventive care, surgical services, and dentistry. Our team is like family, and we are excited to welcome a new member! We have a simple idea that our clients with their pets receive the same care and attention that we ourselves would hope to find. We provide conscientious, knowledgeable medical care and treat our patients with the same kindness and consideration they receive at home. Our team is very hardworking so we are looking for someone who wants to jump in and grow!
Minimum Requirements:
The candidate must be comfortable working with animals, able to lift 40lb, have reliable transportation, and be on-call for Emergency Services on a rotating schedule.
Responsibilities:
- Deliver the highest level of veterinary care (from diagnosis to treatment) to every pet in a professional and ethical manner while ensuring that the client and their pet have an exceptional experience
- Advocates for pets and their quality of life
- Builds strong, long term bonding relationships with clients
- Establishes trust and gains the confidence and compliance of clients througheffectively delivering appropriate preventive care, performing complete diagnostic workups, developing through treatment plans, communicating home care instructions, and planning follow-up visits
- Educates clients and hospital team on all aspects of pet health to improve their level of knowledge about veterinary care and husbandry
- Assimilates information gathered through effective history taking, physical examination and diagnostic workup to arrive at an appropriate and effective clinical decision for treatment
- Leads the hospital team through the daily schedule and caseload, delegating tasks to others and improving hospital efficiency
- Mentors and develops an efficient, collaborative and productive veterinary medical team
- Practices veterinary medicine in a manner compliant with the State/Territory Veterinary Practice Act, Federal and/or State Controlled Substance laws, along with appropriate medical record documentation
- Addresses and resolves client concerns arising from the medical care of a pet and contributes to the development and maintenance of the human-pet bond
- Works well with hospital team and peers, enjoying being a member of the larger veterinary community/profession
- Demonstrates integrity and ethics in all actions and behaviors
- Practices evidence-based medicine and preventative care when data or guidelinesexist, using sound judgment when they do not
- Performs basic surgeries with appropriate anesthesia, monitoring and pain management
- Charges appropriately for services rendered and products/prescriptions dispensed
- Constantly strives to enhance medical quality, hospital efficiency and hospital profitability thereby improves both the medical quality and business performance of the practice
Qualifications:
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD) or equivalent (entry level considered)
- Veterinary license in good standing or eligibility for licensure with the territory veterinary board
- Commitment to practicing the highest standard of medicine and upholding the veterinary code of ethics
- Ability to be confident around pets (dogs and cats)
- Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Delegates tasks and achieves results with hospital team members
- Makes decisions confidently and effectively
- Leads employees by coaching, correcting, developing, and motivating them toachieve success
- Manages time and tasks appropriately
- Engages with the practice owner and senior management team effectively in order to drive outcomes at the clinic level
- Models a professional and courteous manner with staff and clients
Work environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to hazards associated with aggressive patients; hazards associated with infected animals and controlled substances; exposure to unpleasant odors and noises; exposure to bites, scratches and animal wastes; possible exposure to contagious diseases. The Veterinarian may be required to work uncommon hours, subject to recall in emergency situations, required to work additional hours beyond a regular work schedule. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the primary functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to bend, stand, stoop, walk, sit, talk, and listen; may be required to walk or stand for long periods of time; will use hands to manipulate, handle, or feel; will reach with hands and arms. The employee must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
