Job Overview:
The General Staff Accountant II performs a variety of routine and non-routine accounting functions with a significant focus on GAAP knowledge and treatment, theoretical high-level discussions, and implementation. This position is responsible for supporting management in conducting key activities such as Month-End, Quarter-End, and Year-End close, Account Reconciliations, GAAP accounting, and active audit support. The ideal candidate will be comfortable with subsidiary consolidations, financial statements, and audit schedule preparation.
This individual may be required to provide input to or participate in various projects and will perform other duties as requested.
Job Duties:
- Prepare general ledger entries and appropriate reconciliations for month-end, quarterly, and year-end closing.
- Assist in the preparation of Financial Statements, ensuring compliance with GAAP.
- Provide active support during annual external audits, including preparing requested materials and schedules, with a focus on footnote documentation.
- Maintain and file all journal entries for internal and audit purposes.
- Assist in documenting Standard Operating Procedures, including creating process efficiencies.
- Perform ad-hoc reporting and analysis.
- Engage in high-level theoretical discussions and implementation related to GAAP and accounting policies.
- Support management with strategic accounting issues and policy development.
- Protect the Company by keeping financial information and plans confidential.
- Other projects as assigned.
Experience and Education:
- BS degree in Accounting
- 3 or more years of progressively responsible experience for a mid-size company.
- Previous Cemetery/Mortuary experience desirable.
- Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains, QuickBooks and AS/400 knowledge preferred.
- Extensive knowledge of GAAP is essential.
- Experience working with external auditors is highly desirable.

Working Conditions:
The general staff accountant will work in an office environment and may be required to work extended hours during peak periods.
