Medical Assistant
Summary: Under the supervision of the Practice Supervisor or designee perform specific duties that support patient care. These duties include technical procedures, direct and indirect patient care activities that are essential to providing comprehensive care to patients and contribute to the efficient operation of the clinic.
Essential Duties of the Position:
- Greets and escorts patients to the exam room
- Prepares patient for medical exam, take vital signs, height and weight and review new patient intake form.
- Review medical record to prepare for patient visit.
- Refer patient to radiology per physician order.
- Communicate all changes in patient’s condition and problems beyond scope of responsibility to registered nurse.
- Maintain good hand hygiene and adhere to universal precautions policy.
- Gives appropriate post exam instructions to patients as instructed by physician or written protocol.
- Assists in emergency situations according to clinic policy.
- Adheres to environmental health and safety regulations.
- Demonstrates ability to organize and prioritize clinic patient flow.
- Under the direction of the physician and/or the registered nurse, performs technical procedures which contribute to safe patient care.
- Ensures patient safety at all times with proper use of equipment and universal precautions.
- Performs procedures using theoretical knowledge as evidenced by safe practice and patient outcomes
- Performs technical duties which contribute to safe patient care.
- Collect and appropriately handle label specimens
- Removes sutures and staples per the direction of the physician or registered nurse.
- Assist with dressing changes under the direction of the registered nurse.
- Insures patient safety at all times when utilizing equipment.
- Schedules diagnostic tests.
- Participates in educational activities that contribute to patient care, staff education and self-development.
- Completes all mandatory training within review year.

- Participates in evaluation of new equipment or products.
- Effectively contribute to the operational support of the clinic.
- Report faulty equipment and environmental problems to the Nurse Manager or designee.
- Maintain par levels of supplies and stock exam rooms.
- Clean and sterilize instruments according to protocol.
Required Education, Experience and Skills
- High school diploma or GED
- Certified medical assistant
- Strong attention to details
- Superior customer service skills
- Must be able to multi-task
- EPIC experience preferred
- Current CPR certification required
- Communicates professionally, effectively and accurately
- Excellent time management skills
- 1-2 years' experience in a medical practice preferred
